I don't get it. The Dangerous cd is a CD-ROM?? Audio CD's can be longer than 74
minutes! We have dozens that are 78, and a whole library with CD's that are
almost 82. THATS when we found out that the length was a problem and cut back
to 78. We haven't had any probs since.
But in CD-ROM…. many drives dont like our CD!!! Many manufacturers are making
changes because of our cd. Sony has been a BIG head ache!! Right now they think
their early drives don't like 99 tracks so we're changing it to 98 tracks…

The Dangerous CD is audio. In 1990, Philips (spelling?) sent out a letter to
all the CD licensees and requested for compatibility considerations that discs
be limited to about 74.5 minutes. The exact number was specifed, and some
CD-ROM drive makers base the 680MB data spec on the recommended disc time.
There are a lot of discs ment for limited distribution with 78 minute timesm
but you take a chance with the disc working on some drives. I have used a tet
pressing with over 80 minutes back in 88-89 and it worked fine, but the drive
mfrs will not generally warrant that a drive will work with a disc which does
not follow the recommended guidelines. These discs can cause even more
problems when the drive performance is down due to component wear and aging
with alignment drift, lowered light level or double speed. If you provide the
hardware, and can control what drives will be used with a long disc, no
problem. When you don't, you risk problems which can hurt the industry as a
whole. (but this is just my humble opinion – but if you exeed the legal speed
limit often enough, or by too much, sooner or later you get busted and pay a
fine)
