Jack, Re: The French We may have to dispatch our own boats to enforce whaling treaties that might be violated by the norwegians. I don't think french farmers or norwegians whalers have that much political clout. They are getting lip service for their vote, much as American special interest groups do. Paul

The French farmers are so powerful that the entire French government is scared to death of them. They actually kill politicians. They also attack, beat, terrorize, and whatever British and other truckers bringing imports into or even THROUGH their countries. I watch the BBC news every night. We have no idea over here….

"We have no idea over here" See my previous message! I saw so many things while working in South America that were either not reported or thoroughly distorted in the U.S. media that I gave up on most of it.

That's where a dish comes in handy. ALL national media as well as governments go in for such things. I don't believe the CBC when it's examining a lot of Canadian politics, nor the Beeb on British, but what they say about other places, including ours, is often the best source of comparative information available.

Unfortunately, I can not put up a dish on the apartment roof. I put up a short wave antenna, and they made me take that down. It must be a disinformation plot to keep me in the dark. <g>

Just your friendly cable monopoly in action, most likely. Some of the emerging dish technologies might even give some apartment dwellers a way in, although you'll need to be facing south or west! In Britain, they have a 50-channel Ku dish system and it's fascinating to see all the tiny dishes out the windows of rows of flats in Kent and Surrey right next to the window boxes!

Hmm. I have a 4 meter by 2 meter balcony , facing south. Sounds like all I need is to find out where to get one of those dishes!
