I'm searching ideas for doing a realistic lightning strike with 3DSr3. Any suggestions? I'm a new user and I don't know all the tricks of the trade. Thank you Pierre Menard Montreal (Quebec) Canada

/* I'm searching ideas for doing a realistic lightning strike with 3DSr3. Any suggestions? I'm a new user and I don't know all the tricks of the trade. */ Just curious, do you have Animator Pro too? Lightening's a snap with ANI. -dave

I have AApro and I am looking for the same type of effect. I like the idea of incremented tga files which came off of video, but 'it never rains in California'…<g>. Could you tell me how you would do this in AApro? Stephen

By doing paced captures, we can put together a small movie (NUMPIC import-POCO) and use this as a material in 3DS, or as a composite in AniPro. Lots of really great lightening scenes over in the GRAPHSUPP forum too if you can't capture… with a little creative blending on the lightening image (to make it look like lightening isn't striking), you could drop a lightening strike image between 10 or 20 non-lightening strikes and have a "random" strike movie to work with. Sound effects help a lot too. 🙂 -dave

I think that the Schreiber Instruments folks have an IPAS lightning effect. Give them a call at 303/759/1024. – G

We used actual video footage of a lightning strike captured in sequential TGA's then used as an animating texture/opacity map on a flat poly,… looks pretty cool. Spencer Lindsay lindsay@agames.com
