I'm putting my first steps in animation with a Targa+ 32 PAL. 1. I wonder if I render an animation to disk if I should use the Targa RDPADI or render through the NULL device? 2. Secondly I have a question about the aspect ratio, I render at 512×576 (32bit) how should the aspect ratio be? If I render at 740×576 (16bit) how should it be. Do I always leave it at 1.0 ??? Thanks for any info

I'm not sure what the pixel aspects for PAL video are. You'll need to change them, unless PAL uses a square pixel (I doubt it very seriously). For NTSC, for instance, the 512×486 aspect would be 1.26 the formula for this NTSC pixel aspect is (486\512)x1.333 – maybe there's a different one for PAL. You can render through the NULL device, or the RDPADI, but I always render null, because I use network rendering. John Tissavary (La Luna cie)

You have no idea where I could find the right formula build up for PAL??? Any one with experience or knowledge on this is welcome Christophe

From checking Martin's aspect of 1.5 for 512×576 it seems the formula I gave you should work. John Tissavary (La Luna cie)

>>1. I wonder if I render an animation to disk if I should use the Targa RDPADI >>or render through the NULL device? render to NULL but setup the right resolution 512×576! >>2. Secondly I have a question about the aspect ratio, I render at 512×576 >>(32bit) how should the aspect ratio be? My card reports back a aspect of 1.5 at that resolution! >>If I render at 740×576 (16bit) how should it be. Aspect 1.0. If you are going to use fieldrendering, check out that the fieldorder is right. I had to alter the standard value to FIELD-ORDER=0 for my TARGA+ to get the fields in the right order. I'm just in the middle of putting over a 5000 fieldrenderd frames that will be a part of a company presentation on my Targa+ and Diaquest/Quickpass and this setup works great. The only problem is finding a proper converter from RGB to Y,R-Y,B-Y (BetacamSP) (-:! -M.E
