#Network Printing

I'm just in the process of networking two A2000's, I've got to get it done
by the time everyone gets back to work on Tuesday.
I'm using Enlan-DFS and I've exported PRT: from the A2000 attatched to the
printer, but how do I get the client to send all it's printing output to
whatever I decide to call the imported PRT:. There must be a way I can put
a command or two into the startup sequence of the client to redirect the
output. I'm using Workbench 2.04.

I'm sorry, I don't know how network printing works with Enlan.
Why not give Interworks a call on their technical support line?

I've got a little further. What I need to do now is redirect everything
going to the PAR: device to another device. I'd like to put something in
the startup sequence. I've tried everything I can think of but no luck,
I'm trying to do this before the office opens on Tuesday so the Interworks
tech line might be a bit late.

I finally managed to get CMD to work properly. There is an option that
allows multi-files to be printed but when this option is used in the SHELL
it didn't seem to want to know. Using the multifile option in the icon and
then putting CMD into the WBStartup drawer seems to have done the trick.

As far as I know:
some networks come with a parallel device compatible device that allows
redirecting output to a network printer. The device has to be entered into
the printer preferences structure (KS 2.04 and higher does offer a printer
device and unit preferences, though, you can't enter them with the WB
preferences program). In this case there must come a program with the
network software wich setups preferences to redirect output to that
network printing device.
Otherwise: you can use the CMD program from your WB disk to redirect
output to the server. For instance put following command in user-startup:
run sys:tools/CMD parallel server:spooldir/dump opt m
All printing will than be redirected to the spooldir on that server. Now
you have to install a program that monitors that spooldir and if there is
a dumpfile, copy it to par: (or whereever your printin is connected to).
YOu can find such spooling programs on Fish disk and most likely here on
CIS (hmm… maybe even nice "Print Manager" does offer you this).

I managed to get CMD to work from the WBStartup drawer, but the print
spooler sounds like a great idea.
Do you happen to know where I can get a printer driver for my HP Lazerjet
4ML? Wordworth prints out through it own postscript driver and the quality
is excellent. trying to print out from SBasePro4, which uses the prefs
printer driver, is a disaster!

I thought Superbase does come with it's own Laserjet driver? You may use
the WB driver but in case of the Laserjet, there can remember seeing a
command file… (but I don't know much about Superbase either – just used
it at work…).

Yes SB does have a LazerJet file but it doesn't work even as well as the
prefs one that I have.
