#Flatbed Scanners

Thanks for the info.
To answer your question about the TWAIN standard for Flatbed scanners, I will
quote some info from the Feb. 8, 94. issuse of PC Magazine.
"Another major development on desktop scanning has been the widespread
acceptance of the Twain applications interfce standard. (According to the
Twain committee, Twain is not an acronym; it represents the union of
applications and input devices.)
Twain is a software interface that eliminates the need for every scanner
manufacturer to write its own drivers. Rather, by automatically installing as
a subprogram, Twain permits a user to scan directly into an application….."
Also; "TWAIN Drivers, which provide a standard interface between peripherals
and applications, have attained near-universal acceptance in the scanner arena.
Thruogh Twain, scanning is simplified: Images can be scanned directly into
applications…… Some better-quality Twain drivers have features like
controls for color correction, highlight and shadow, color prescan, cropping,
and zoomable prescan."
To answer your question regarding special interface cards. Most of the new
Flatbed Scanners have SCSI interfaces as a standard.
So, with that I would like to re-ask a question to All who read this. Are
there any Amiga software programs that are Twain compatible? I would like to
use the HP ScanJet IIcx or the Microtek ScanMaker IISP with the Amiga. Both of
these scanners are SCSI and Twain compatible.
Thanks for the info Larry.

I just received a flyer from Migraph. They are now selling 2 flatbed color
scanners of their own! I don't have the literature with me now but I'll do my
best to summarize:
Model 1: 600×1200
Model 2: 1200×1200 (maybe higher?)
both use interpolation to achieve those numbers.
Model 1 is a 3 pass scanner while Model 2 is a single pass scanner.
Both have only SCSI ports.
Price: Model 1 = $799 Model 2 = $999
prices are for a limited time and available direct from Migraph.
later!
Now I'm looking at the flyer from Migraph!
UPDATE:
MS1200: 300×600 optical (600×1200 interpolated max) 3 pass scanning
MS2400: 600×1200 optical (600×2400 interpolated max) 1 pass scanning
Both: 24 bit color, 8 bit greyscale and monochrome line art (8 dithers)
Scanning area for both: 8.5" x 14"
Scan speed (letter size @ 300dpi) MS1200: 45 secs MS2400: 19.8 secs
Prices: MS1200: $799 MS2400: $999
Options: Transparency attachment: $399
IBM PC SCSI card with TWAIN software: $129
Call Migraph at: 1-800-223-3729
PS: This has been a free service announcement.
I am in no way affiliated with Migraph
Hello;
Thanks for the information on the scanners!! Are you planning on getting one
of the Migraph scanners?
See Ya,
Russ Lightning….
No, I think I'll send the money to the IRS instead! 🙁
If I do get a color scanner it will have to be one with a parallel port
(like the Epson models) since I may never get around to adding a scsi port
to my 1200.
later!
