#Black burst HELP!
9 messages in this thread
I am looking for some assistance in configuring my configuration (or, "I just
got up to see what
condition my condition was in").
Actually, I am trying to hook up a recently aquired HORITA BSG-50 sync
generator to my
system. I have a 4X4 s-video matrix switcher on the way, but until then, and
even then, I am
struggling with the existing setup:
Two computers, each with a Targa+ and a DQ422+ card, and a Sony GVM-1311Q
monitor
A Sony EVO-9650, a Sony VHS deck (can't recall the model), and a Sony
UVW-1800.
We have to change the cables around all the time depending on who is doing
what, but I want to
get the black burst generator into the system. The BSG-50 is presently
configured to three black
burst and three composite sync signals. I can modify this, but don't believe
that for my setup I
will need to.
It is my best understanding that I need to change the jumpers on the DQ422+
cards for "external"
sync, connect one sync signal from the BSG-50 to each DQ422+ BNC connection,
and connect
one black burst from the BSG-50 to the "ref. video in" on the UVW-1800. The
EVO-9650 doesn't
require a "ref video in" so no connection is necessary there. In addition, I
will need to modify my
"genlock" command for the DQ422+, somewhere (that I think I can look up).
Does this sound about right, or am I way off and likely to melt down the entire
room?
Thanks,
Chris
Christopher,
You might find it more advantageous to reference the Targa's to house sync and
the Diaquest's to the Targa's. That way you can time your Targa's to your
switcher as the Diaquests won't be as critical about reference. And should you
need to pull a deck and Targa off the switcher, the Diaquest will continue
using the same reference without changing wires, and the Targa can switch to
internal sync. Ultimately this will depend on how you want to use the output
from the Targas. If you want to use them as a still store and a paint box of
sorts as well as for recording animations, it would be easier to time it this
way. But if you just plan to output directly to the record decks then its not
as critical as you won't have to match timing to the switcher. In this case
your plan will work provided that you reference the Targa's to your Diaquest.
The EVO should be set to AUTO for sync if you plan to use it as a source on
your switcher.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will be moving across the hall next week and I
plan on waiting until then hook everything together. If I get stuck I might
bug you again.
Chris
Christopher,
When you make the move keep Diaquests number handy as well, they have helped me
alot in the past with their product.

Couldn't wait. Killed me to just pause and stare at the sync generator.
Attempted your setup idea (which I liked very much) and all went well on the
first attempt. What a great feeling to drop a day's worth of stuff to the
betacam and not receive an ALARM on "non-standard ref. video".
Thanks very much for you suggestion! This BBS is a great resource.

Now that's what I like to hear! 🙂
Glad all went well, I think you'll find this configuration flexible and most
productive.

Chris:
We have a similar setup, and it works fine. Let me know if you have any
problems. Your thinking is in the right direction.

Really? What kind of switcher do you have?

It seems that John E. has a slightly different suggestion. Have you looked at
that arrangement?
