Jonas, My rendering rates just don't make sense; My 486-33 renders at the same rate as my 486DX2 (66). But when I run other benchmarks, the system seems to run about right. For example, the norton indes is 71 on the -33 and 94 on the -66. The -33 is 22.8 Dhrystones and the -66 is 45. Whetstones are 5.7m on the -33 and 9.6 on the -66. Seem OK to you? But rendering a small model like the Planet1.3ds takes about 2:30 on either machine. How can this possibly be? – Gregory

Gregory, << rendering rates… >> Let's start by asking which memory manager you have. Some individuals have reported inproved rendering speed when utilizing robust memory managers like QEMM. Also, how much memory does each machine have? jonas[adesk]

Good call, Jonas. Also, have him benchmark Chevy.3ds/640×480/null on both machines running 1)no memory manager, 2)QEMM, 3)Himem.sys (that comes with Windows 3.1). That way, we can see where he stands compared to most folks, and *which* machine is acting weird. -Alan

Alan, << additional tests… >> That will help us for sure. jonas[adesk]

Jonas, The -33 has 8Mb and the -66 has 32Mb. Both use QEMM. But it the model size is small, how can the memory manager affect the rendering speed?
