I've had quite a few spectacular crashes lately (caused by some code I'm
writing).
I've been wondering, is it possible to do any damage through a really
serious software crash? That is, apart from the possibility of wrecking
my hard disk and altering the clock?

Well, if MONED can damage your monitor if used incorrectly, I would assume
that doing the wrong thing to the AGA chipset could very well have a
similar effect.
… just a guess tho…

I've certainly seen some spectacular displays immediately after a crash.
Almost always, these only last a few seconds, then the screen goes black.
Then, usually a guru message pops up.
Actually, I'm not using the AGA chipset, as I'm using an A2000.
I did hear of some computer many years ago that could suffer from internal
melt-down under certain crash conditions ;-( It was this kind of thing
that had me bothered, or possibly being permanently unable to re-boot if
something got damaged.
(If I do blow up my monitor, it will be a good excuse to go out and buy a
multi-sync.)

One of the old PET's had a location in the I/O chip that, if POKE'd
correctly would fry the chip.
