Yes. Per the instructions on page 7-3 of the Aterm manual. No the question
isn't too simplistic in that I am a novice and don't quite understand how to
use Aterm. It seems that there must be better written term software out there
that has better MMI. I'm just not satisfied with the manual.

I think that you are using AmigaTerm and NOT ATerm (or ATERM7.ARC from
DL4). My discussion of number of bits to use etc. should apply to AmigaTerm
also but unfortunately does not. As Don told you in a message, to use
AmigaTerm (with protocol upload/download) you MUST set up for 8 bit operation.
That is a bug in the program as all terminal communication programs should
automatically switch to 8 bit for the duration of the protocol transfer.
Appearently AmigaTerm does not! The other item does apply regardless of what
communications program you are using, that is when you want to change
communications 'framing parameters' used with CIS, you have to tell CIS about
it before you make the change. When you change the parameters for the number
of bits, parity and number of stop bits, CIS actually does not make the change
until you log off. That way they will be in effect the next time you log on.
If I had noticed the reference to the manual and CIS-B protocol (like
Don did), I would have realized that you were not talking about ATerm. Sure
hope that I did not cause you any trouble or confusion.
I think that the general consenses here is that Online! is the best
commercial terminal program availible for the AMI right now. It is none too
good (my opinion) but will have an upgraded version out soon. People like
myself that bought Scribble! (same company) received an upgrade to that product
that was nothing short of fantastic. We are therefore very optimistic about
the new release of Online! If you don't need all the 'bells and whistles' like
scripting, then on of the PD programs availible here in DL4 may be much more to
your liking. I personally prefer Aterm7.arc (which is why I responded, I
thought I knew what I was talking about–Oh well!).

Sorry that I confused the issue. I thought that Aterm was an abbreation for
AmigaTerm. I was reading AC (vol2 no.1) and was happy to see that ONLINE!
received the Developer Conference award for best communications program. As
soon as my local store gets more copies of ONLINE! I will pick one up but it
seems that as soon as they come in they are gone. (this also backs up its
credability as software)
Thanks for getting back…havn't tried to download anything since my
last message…still waiting for CIS to send me more instructions about using
this system which is new to me. It is not timidness but only cost
effectiveness. Michael
Michael, wait for the upgrade to OnLine! before buying – it is supposed to be
much better than the original.
BTW, read SAVMON.HLP in DL1 when you have a chance and EZSIG.HLP – both files
will assist you in getting around here most efficiently and tips on saving
money too.

to those who helped) you advice will come in handy. By the way, how do i
"un-arc" some of these files? michael
You're welcome Michael. You need ARC.EXE (DL4) and ARC.HLP (DL1). Rename it to
arc and put it in your c directory on Workbench. To deARC type – arc e filename
(note: you can use x instead of e). The arced file must have a .arc extender –
but it is not necessary to use the extender in the filename part of the arc
command.

Roger on your last! I am now using a PC-clone for all of the CIS work
and a program called 'ZAPCIS.' I was 'put on to it' by another forum member,
Dave. It is such an outstanding program that several of us would like to see
something like it for the AMI. Dave is checking with the program author to
find out if he would be willing to assist or at provide the source code. Some
of it features would not be needed on the AMI and some would be much easier to
accomplish with the AMI's multitasking. In any event things are still at the
early phase of 'feasibility discussions.' Have you captured any of the '.hlp'
files from DL1 yet? Some of them provide excellent hints on saving $$$.

Michael, did you download INDEX.DL1? The help file are the first ones listed
in that index under "Help and How To Files". There is an index for each dl
('cept 16)…Marlene
