VGA Card Mem Conflict
6 messages in this thread
Ed,
Did anybody ever answer your question about VGA setup?
BBsetup has a selection VGA/EGA for Video which is the last entry in
the left column.
You may have to enable one of the emulation screens temporarily to get
to it from the bridgeboard.

Yes, thank you. My first problem was the Paradise card was preventing the BB
from booting. I thought Enforcer was working but due to many sys. re- loads it
got dropped While I am here I have a problem of only getting Magenta
charachters on a black screen with now way to change. I can't make any changes
either at the basic DOS/CLI screen or when in MS DOSSHELL even though there is
a menu for it. Use it and nothing happens. Am sure s some- thing has gotten
deleted. I do have ANSI.SYS device assigned. Any ideas? Thanks, Ed R.

If this is a screen being emulated on the Workbench, then you could
increase the number of colors. If this is a problem on the monitor
connected to the VGA card, then your card may need more memory.
You may have to specify more details on your system configuration for a
better answer.
You're welcome! <^_^>

Gayle, thanks for this and your previous responses. After two & 1/2 months of
banging my head against the wall over this magenta chrs on black bkg, the the
answer is in hand but not yet fixed. No problem on WB only on feed from VGA
card. I go through an A-B switch to Mitsu. multi scan monitor. I have 2 friends
using 386sx BB but only CGA thru Amiga to monitor. One of my friends in our ham
radio club loaned me his monitor yesterday and it worked fine so pretty sure
it's the DB15m-DB25m cable has wrong pinouts for monitor I have cable ordered
from Redmond Cable in WA. Will confirm after rereceipt thanks again. ED R.
I used to occasionally get magenta on black or yellow on black or green on
black with VGA and a switchbox on my bridgeboard. Turned out to be a poor
quality switchbox. Jiggling the switch or cable sometimes restored the
proper colors. I got a new cable and a new switchbox, to be safe, and all
was well thereafter. BTW, I have an older Thomson multiscan monitor, which
was the same monitor as an early Mitsubishi Diamondscan.
Ed,
I just recently hooked a multi-scan to my 386sx BB. The old C= 1084S
is still hooked to the Amiga because I haven't had time to get a
switchbox. Just too many times to wrap up before I get to it. Hope your
new cable works!
A new and shorter cable solved a parallel printer problem once upon a
time that now seems so far away!
Good luck!
