#040/2000 scsi probs.

I have a G-force 040/2000 with a micropolis 2210 HD. As long as the micropolis
is the only drive connected I have no problems, but when I add a drive (quantum
105, maxtor 245), I get non-existant read errors. I'm pretty sure the drive
termination is correct. I know the drive is OK because connected to the 2091 on
my other machine (PP&S 040/2000) it works fine.
I originally had the micropolis internal (with syquest) and had the problem
when I connected an external drive. Now I have it external with the maxtor
inside and have problems.

I had similar problems and found that the ribbon cable connection between
the '040 board and the external drive was bad. I am currently trying to
replace it. The board and the drives are all fine, however.

How were you able to pin it down to that cable? I assume you mean the GVP
supplied cable from the board to the DB25 connector.

First, I switched my '040s between my 2 A2000s. Both boards ran fine and
mounted all HD partitions. So, at this point I knew that both boards were
OK and the problem was elsewhere.
Second, on the malfunctioning A2000, I configured the '040 so that no HD
was connected, and I booted from a floppy. Everything came up fine there,
too. This made me think that the one A2000 wasn't having trouble "talking"
with the '040 in the CPU slot.
Third, I exchanged the cable-to-DB25 connector between both computers and
discovered that neither would boot-up with the faulty ribbon cable
connector. Thus, the problem was isolated.
Purchasing a 50-pin SCSI cable and installing the HD internally (connected
to the 50-pin internal SCSI connector on the '040) solved the problem.
Now, I'd like to find a way to replace the DB25 connector so I can back up
this HD with my SCSI tape drive (which is usually connected to my other
A2000).

When you add BOTH internal and external drives to the A2000-040, both drives
MUST be terminated and you must REMOVE the terminators from the accelerator
board. These terms are located above the SIMMs. You didn't mention how you
have the termination set up, so please verify this.

That sounds like the problem. So I need an external terminator (DB25) if I
remove the external drive. Does such a thing exist in a DB25 flavor? I
know there are Centronics terminators but I've never seen a DB25. Come to
think of it I remember someone else asking about the same thing recently.
