#G Force SCSI question

GVP,
I have G Force 040 board and a Quantum HD and CD-ROM connected to the SCSI
port. I have the CD terminated. I also have a Bridgeboard with a SCSI card.
I've been told that it's possible to hook one long SCSI cable to use the CD-ROM
both from the Amiga and the Bridgeboard. Here's the order for the devices on
the cable:
GVP SCSI
Amiga HD
CD-ROM <– terminated
PC SCSI
This would mean that the one CD-ROM would terminate two SCSI chains. Do you
know if this would work, and is there any risk to the data on my hard disk?

First of all, there IS a potential risk. Some IBM controller boards provide
POWER on the bus, which can cause damage if incorrectly configured or if
attached to a board that cannot address this power correctly. Secondly, GVP
has never tried this type of setup and does not recommend it.
That being said, your scenario is a possibility, but requires that ALL SCSI
DEVICES have a different ID number, INCLUDING the boards. Our boards are
hard-coded for SCSI ID 7. You'll have to check the ID number of the IBM SCSI
board. This is ALL that I know about this type of setup. Whether there are
other factors involved and how to tackle them is beyond me.
Unless you have VERY SPECIFIC information about this type of arrangement and
YOUR PARTICULAR hardware, I strongly recommend against it.

Thanks for the info. If I try it, I'll disconnect the HD first, and I'll let
you know what the results were. The only problem I can see is that the PC SCSI
card may also be hardcoded for ID 7. Thanks again.
