I use Nucleus with JVC '22 series decks and it works great. I suspect
since the PVW 2800 is listed as a supported deck that you will be pleased
with it too. To get more info, call them at 905 859-5218.
Re: titling. You may want to look inot Montage (titling software from
Innovision not to be confused with the NLE guys with a Montage system)
especially now that their Postscript converter is shipping. Composing
titles, espicially if over bacgrounds and you spend time placing text
relative tot he graphic alot, is more straight forward in Montage. It
used the Toaster as its frame buffer and sets up page transitions using
the Toaster effects. You have to trigger it via GPI to mouse port 2 on
the Amiga.
I might also mention that, though you said Toaster 4000 and not an Amiga
4000 Toaster 4000 combination, that you might be better off with an
accelerated A2000 and a T4000 board if expandability or animation speed is
an issue. There are some '040 accelerators for the Amiga 4000 that put
memory on the CPU board to alleviat off-card cross bus access to all
memory, but I've not yet actually heard of anyone using one nor have I
seen any comparison data.
Toaster Timer I'll leave for perhaps Bruce Roberston.
MOnitor – use just a bout any multi-sync with the Syncstrainer attached to
the RGB port ($59) or add a FFV and get de-interlaced display on your
multisyn and hook a 1084 to the RGB port and the preview out and have a
monitor you can switch to be straight preview or a control-preview overlay
monitor.
If you are going to use Lightwave alot, get Lightwave Pro news letter.
John Gross can tell you about that. Video Toaster User is also a nice
source of good info.

I'm coming into this thread a little late, so all I caught was some mention of
the Toast Timer. If what someone is after is a means of timing the Toaster to
a video system, then the Toast Timer will do the trick ($298). Think of it as
adding H and subcarrier controls to the Toaster; now it can be timed the same
as a camera or TBC would.

If I use the Toaster Timer to time one toaster with two other inputs to
create an A/B/C Roll capable system with Using a toaster and two decks as
inputs to another Toaster (or other switcher), then both Toaster would
have house sync to input one, house sync would go to ref in of the source
decks, and the Toaster 1 pgm out would go through Toaster Timer, have its
H and SC massaged and then loop to an input on Toaster 2?
Is the timer a little box that sits on the desk top with SC/H phase
controls and a power chord? Or is it a card in the Amiga?

To time the two machines into two Toasters, the Toast Timer is NOT going to do
the job for you. In that example, you will need to delay the tape machine
video going to the 2nd Toaster. This delay is essentially in parallel with the
1st Toaster; in this manner, the video paths are matched for length and level.
Toaster #1 Program Out video can simply feed directly into Toaster #2 input 1;
this guarantees proper timing.
To delay the above signals for 400+ nsec (Toaster path length), we have a
product called the BreadBoard. For $398 you get three independent delays, each
adjustable for video level, chroma level, and delay.
The Toast Timer is a half-length PC board that occupies a slot in any of the
Amigas or in an expansion frame (got an old XT laying about?). We also have a
desktop unit that does the same thing plus makes color mattes.
