#gif format
3 messages in this thread
Hi,I'm new to cserve, so I hope it is legal to send a message to you directly.
I found your name under Autodesk, and was wondering if you could help me.
All the pictures that I have downloaded will not work on my version of
Autodesk Animator. It will tell me that it is an "unknown GIF revision".
Is there any software to convert these GIF files so that I can see them
on my Autodesk Animator? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I don't believe that Tim Cox is with Autodesk anymore (I think he's with Alias,
now). You should direct your query to either Jonas Ruikis [ADESK] 73172,1351
or Nik Grant [adesk] 70421,76.

George,
The Animator Program will read (and write) 320×200 GIF files of the 87a GIF
standard. You will have to run the CONVERT.EXE file in the AA directory for
those it can't read. When the CONVERT fails, you probably have no recourse
with Autodesk software. If you GO GRAPHSUPP there are a number of GIF readers
and converters. I am pretty sure you will find a product there which will save
the file to a format readable by Animator.
If you need to determine the GIF type, you can get the name of the file and
just type it up. Example: type GEORGE.GIF <enter>. It will bring up a lot
of binary language, but you will see the GIF type.
Animator's been around for a while and the file formats it converts have not
been updated for 5 years or so.
