Hi, Is there any way for me to find out what the Errors mean on my machine. Stuff like, Error 8000 0003 Task 0020 3210. Or Recoverable Alert error 0100 000F task 0847 Bd70. I've been getting quite a few of them when I try booting up the computer and was wondering if there's a list of what the errors mean? Thanks

There are files in the library that give you the meaning of those numbers, though I don't have a filename for you at the moment. I suspect a search with 'GURU' as a keyword might bring one up for you. They are also in the ROM KERNAL manuals, which can be bought from most Amiga dealers. Some of them are explained in one of my old Transactor articles, in the AmigaUser libraries. I'm sure the GURU keyword would bring up that one, as would the word TRANSACTOR. That one was written a very long time ago, and there are probably some newer ones that were not covered in it. —Betty

Thanks Betty, I've done a search and found a few programs under the GURU search. HOpefully they will help out. I had done my previous search with the word Error and didn't find much.

I'm glad you found what you need. It was not until 2.04 that the word GURU MESSAGE began to drop out of our vocabulary. Error messages used to come up on a black screen with a flashing red border around them and the wording was something like GURU MESSAGE # xxxxxxx,xxxxxx. One of the jokes put in by the originators of the machine. I rather liked it. —Betty

Fred Fish disk 902 contains a program called ERROR. It will print a message text for AmigaDOS errors along with probable causes. I suspect it will be what you need to shed light on these "mysterious" messages. On the other hand, unless you are trying your hand at writing programs, you shouldn't be getting ANY error halts; you must have a "doubtful" program in there. –Jim

"The hills are ALERT with the sound of downloads…" I find that there are a zillion programs to do alert-helping available on Fish disks and for download from library 11 here: Lib11: AHELP.LHA (AlertHelp), also on FF 939 NEWALE.ZOO ALERT.LZH ALERT.LHA FF958: ALERT. Most of these are on-line utilities which catch the alert as it happens and tell you more about what's going on. –Jim
