Angelo: Could you do a little comparison of the Pegasus 4MB and the Matrox MGA II? I would be interested in either board if it performs well for 3DS, Fractal Painter, Photostyler and Altamir Composer. Thanks. Bob

Bob, >> comparison of the Pegasus 4MB and the Matrox MGA II?<< The difference between the two boards can be approached by asking yourself a question… "Is DOS performance important .. or am I 99% concerned with Windows". The reason being is that the MGA is not a VGA card .. and must emulate VGA thru a software layer. The Pegasus is VESA VGA card as well as a Windows accellerator. The MGA however is faster is Windows and offers other nice driver features (like resetting resolution without rebooting .. etc). My test for VGA-VESA compatibility is its ability to run a program call HiRes QFX by Ron Scott, Inc. (an draw/paint/image processing program). HiRes is very particular about VESA compatibility and a card and driver has to be pretty tight not to have problems. I talked to Ron and he said the Pegasus works great. Also, 3DS offer support from within the inline driver. So .. for 3DS and other non-Win programs .. Pegasus. For Windows performance in HiColor … The MGA series (Ultima II+ w/4MB option would be my choice). Ang
