I use 3D Studio version 3 on two workstations equipped with Hercules Graphics Station Plus Twos. The Vibrant Graphics inline driver 1.0.2 P1 dated April 5 indicates a choice for 512×486, 24 bit render display mode in the setup menu but still does'nt actually support it. Does anyone know when it will be implimented? Both Vibrant and Hercules Tech Support have referred me to Autodesk saying that it will be done when Autodesk gives priority to the task. There are a lot of us 3DS users out here with these still very functional boards. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. John Barrett 70062,3402

I'm very familiar with the status of the Herc 512×486 mode. The Vibrant folks have been _trying_ to implement it, but it requires some bizarre initialization code that has taken awhile to write. It's scheduled for the next incarnation of the Vibrant drivers, which should be up here within the next month. – G

You are right! Basically, the 34010 doesn't support true-color, but the Hercules guys did some weird hacks to get it work. In this mode, however, TIGA can't be used to do the drawing. To implement this, we had to rewrite our TIGA VDC to take advantage of a generic draw-code library we developed. This is still being tested and we are working out problems created with other TIGAs. Once this rewrite has been tested, the Hercules mode should fall out pretty easily. Again, it is just a matter of time. PS: We are shooting for Targa+ support in the next release. Thanks for the clarification, Chuck. It's unfortunate that the 512×480 mode on that Herc card is so non-standard and that you've had to do so much work to get it running. Thanks for the extra effort too! – G
