Hi
A friend of mine is about to buy a modem to get his Amiga 4000 connected to the
world (and to CIS). The hardware seems not to be the problem but:
Is there a good, cheap (share- or so -ware) modem/fax
send/receive software for Amiga?
In our small world, the dealers could not help (or just wanted to sell a 500
bucks piece of hardware, and not to care to make it useful).
I'm using Bitcom/Bitfax on my DOS-PC, and I like it. I think of something
similar.

Supra sells a bundle (about $300 for fax-modem & software) or you could
buy GPFax (about $50) and use it with a proper fax-modem (be sure to
specify whter you want Class 1 or Class 2 software).

If your friend wants a simple term program – general purpose – we have a
library full of them – Library 5 of AmigaUser. If he wants a CompuServe
navigator similar to OZCIS or TAPCIS, there is a demo version of AutoPilot
in AmigaVendor, Library 9, AP.LHA. The full version costs $69.95 to
register, but it will save LARGE amounts of money in connect-time if he
uses CIS very much.
Also, it will be possible for you to download programs to your MSDOS
machine and he will be able to read the disks with his 4000. It comes
with software built-in to read that format.

I couldnt help noticing your "AOPA-S" reference when reading your message
with Autopilot. Are you accessing Compuserve via the AOPA BBS????
I would highly recommend "Autopilot" for your friend to access Compuserve,
BTW.
