Software for SCSI CDrom?

I am purchasing an external SCSI CDrom for my Mac. I'd also like to be able to
use it on my Amiga(2000). What software do I need and is recommended? TIA,

Uhmmm… are you talking about software to get the Amiga to drive the CDROM??
If so, I believe there is a CDROM driver in the libraries here.
Otherwise, I might assume you are asking about software that you may need to
permit both machines to use the CDROM simultaneously?? If this is the case, I
can't answer that… I do know that I have a hardware A/B switch to permit me
to run my CDROM from the Amiga or from my GoldenGate bridgeboard. So, I'm not
familiar with either the MAC requirements or software switching requirements.

I just want to be able to use the SCSI CDrom on both machines. I will be
carrying it back and forth. I know that some kind of driver is needed but the
world of CDrom is new to me. I don't know if a standard driver is useable, or
if you have to have one specific to a certain CDrom piece of hardware. Sounds
like all I need is a driver. Silly me, I thought I'd have to buy it. thanks,

The software to get any SCSI based CD-ROM working on the Amiga is here in
the AmigaUser forum, filename AmiCD.LHA if you download this and set it
up, you'll have access to your CD's as if they were normal disks.
CD-ROM's are generic to a larger degree, in other words, they all have the
same interface and commands. Some with special features obviously need
specific driver software, however drives like this are not so common.
Therefore if you buy a CD-ROM drive, both your Mac and Ami (or a PC for
that matter) will be able to read the disks. Make sure that the drive
conforms to the following;
1. Multi Session support; this means that it can take PhotoCD disks
2. ISO HFS this is the dual standard for the Mac and PC, if you only
need Mac support, get an HFS compatible drive, for a PC get an ISO 9660
compatible unit. The Amiga software above will read both formats.
3. On the Mac, you also need driver software, however if you buy the
drive from a Mac dealer, you will get this software included.

I have my NEC 3Xi CD-ROM drive connected simultaneously to my A1000 and my
IBM PS/2 56. It only requires that the SCSI ID of the SCSI controllers of
the Amiga and the PS/2 are not equal (in my case 5 and 7). However, when
the CD-ROM drive is heavily used from the PS/2 I have to power down the
Amiga, because the CD-ROM drive will otherwise timeout occasionally.
The Amiga software, I am using, is the PD software found here in the forum
libraries (AMICD.LHA).

I just did the same thing and bought AsimCDFS and it works great!
I got a PowerCD and the AsimTunes program didn't support it, I called them
and was told a new version was available for d'l from their BBS. I
followed the registration procedure and the next day was able to get the
update. Installed it and the music player works great.
Good service is important and Asimware Innovations did just that for me.
They've got my recommendation,

Brian, I am running an NEC 74-1 CDROM to both sides of my Amiga 2000 that is
BB386SX and 2630 output. XETEC's software works fine. On th the BB side I have
a Sound Blaster 16 SCSI-II board using the Adaptek software that came with it.
They work concurrently with the only warning is not to access the CDROM from
the BB side until the BB is FULLY booted. Booting will not wait for access. No
switching is necess- ary as long as the device numbers are not the same on the
two controller card (that th LU's for the drive itself). So you may have both
computers running at the same time. Ed R.
I am going to follow up on my previous post. Since getting everything up and
running I have a great of contention between the BB and the Amiga side
with both sides being on the same SCSI bus. I think its going to take some
serious working to separate things. I never had anything like this with the XT
board on a separate 21 meg hard card. Windows takes approx 5 mins to
start up, then Encarta takes about the same. Also Encarta in some func- tions
starts activity on the bus and has taken half an hour to settle down
when left completely alone. So all is not all roses with this set-up…
