My C= 1960 monitor just went up in smoke.
I purchased the monitor in January 1993 from one of the few local Amiga
dealers and he has since gone out of business. Given the state of
Commodore, I'm not sure parts, or service is available.
Does anyone know who actually makes the monitor for Commodore and can that
manufacturer service it?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
As I understand it, when a monitor "blows", it's usually one of the output
driver transistors that popped – too much heat. You should be able to get it
fixed without too much trouble.
Considering the dearth of multi-sync monitors today, please do not trash your
monitor. The Amiga marketplace needs every one it can find.

It certainly did blow – with smoke and a screen that went to a bright
white spot in the center. I am hoping it is something like a generic
transistor or transformer.
And I have no intention of trashing the beast – my old 1084S is giving me
flicker fits.
If you have a bright white spot in the middle of your screen, that would
indicate that you lost both H and V drivers. Or, then again, perhaps something
upstream of H and V blew, like your high voltage power supply. Still, it
shouldn't take too much to fix it.

Hopefully, the parts are somewhat generic and my local TV and monitor
repairman can locate what he needs.

The 1950 was built by AOC. I think the 1960 is also an AOC monitor. Most
of those have generic Japanese marked transistors. I've found some parts
cross referenced in catalogs from places like MAT electronics and others
that deal with TV repair shops. No luck getting help from AOC, they just
refer us back to Commodore. Evidently, some of the parts aren't used in
AOC's own USA models and aren't available here. Or at least thats what
they said when I tried.

for the info. I've got the monitor right now in the hands of a local
generic TV and Monitor repairman. He's used to tracking parts down but
he's not too sure about mine so the AOC info might be useful.
By the way, the case on 1960 says it was manufactured in Taiwan – is that
where AOC is made?

My 1950 is made in Taiwan & is from AOC. I found the service manual for
the 1950… I'll have to look around for the 1960, I don't remember if I
had one. (I used to be the service dept for the local dealer… but not
much of a monitor wiz!)
