#switcher help

I am looking for some assistance in finding a switcher/router for my system. I recently bought a 4×4 matrix switcher to find that it wasn't at all what I need. We have: 2 PCs, 2 GVM-1311Q NTSC monitors, 1 UVW-1800, 1 EVO-9650, 1 SVO-160 (PCs both have Diaquest 422+ and Targa 32 cards; we also use a Horita sync generator). We would like to be able to switch as much of the cabling as possible thru a router – tired of banging ours heads on the shelves as we come out from behind the VTRs. Maybe the S-Video switcher we bought will work, but it seems to me that if one PC is being selected as input, the other is out to lunch. We would like to be able to have each station switched to a deck and then be able to change decks. Confussed? Me too. Thanks Chris

You'll have to explain in some detail exactly what you want to be able to do. Getting everything timed to do switching and animation to tape maybe more than your system or budget is up to, but if you can give me a better idea, I think I can make some recommendations. -JE

I'm really not looking for a switcher, rather a router. I'm not losing sync. I just want to be able to route the two different PCs to the two different VTRs (and monitors if possible) without pulling and swapping cables in the back all of the time! Chris

Chris, there are many switchers out there that would do what you need. Tech and Sigma Electronics are two to check into. For instance Tech has an SRS-1 which is a dual selector which allows you to choose which source go to what recorders. You can have a single source go to multiple decks or split with two sources going to seperate recorders. These run about $500. Any video source company should be able to help you get what you need. If you prefer mail order you might ask Don Landis who he likes, as he follows that line pretty closely. -JE

Thanks. I have Washington Pro Video and AVI looking into it, but no responses from them yet. I will pass on the Tech and Sigma ideas and see what shakes out. Chris
