#Vistapro to 3ds utility?

Clint; In the book I just purchased, "Inside 3D Studio", there is an offer to get VistaPro 3.0. If I order it, will I actually get 3.1, or whatever the latest release is? I am interested in the DXF out utility for 3DS. It sounds like it is easier with 3.1. Thanks, Dennis

Dennis: If you purchase the CD version of VistaPro, you will get 3.1. In order to get the floppy version of 3.1, you need to buy or upgrade to 3.0 and then upgrade to 3.1, as there are no packaged 3.1's currently available. (Don't ask me why, I don't set policy. <sigh>) I will email you details, they aren't as grim as they sound. <grin> Clint <VRLI>

Hi, Clint. I bought CD-ROM version of VistaPro, but my CD-ROM drive is broken. Is there any way to "upgrade" to floppy version (at least temporarily)?

Dennis, I'm sure you'll like the 3.1 version of Vistapro. But don't expect to render a DXF landscape in 3DS and get results like Vistapro's. About the best you can get out of 3DS will be similar to Vistapro at Polygon Size 1 with no texture. The DXF files don't contain the fractal detail that Vistapro generates while rendering. Even so, a small Vistapro landscape at full detail is a 13MB DXF file (130,000 polygons). 3DS gets very sluggish when working with that amount of data. A Vistapro landscape with all the fractal detail would be many gigabytes as a DXF file. Of even more importance is the program VUE2SCR.EXE which is included with the CD-ROM. It translates 3DS VUE scripts into Vistapro format. This gives you the ability to create a series of Vistapro images that are synchronized with 3DS's camera. You can then use those images as backgrounds in 3DS. John.

John; Thanks for the reply on Vistapro. It seems like a very good program, and I will probably get it eventually. Presently, I don't have a CD Rom, but when I get one, I will then probably get Vistapro. Dennis
