Hi Andre I have a Rip editor for BBS operators now, called RIPGRAF70.LHA and it includes a FAQ on the RipTerm. I will quote it to you here. Watch an ADS/SAN area on a BBS near you soon! 🙂 —————————— Amiga RIP term FAQ —————— I seem to get alot of email and calls to my support BBS by people looking for information on Amiga RIP terms, So to save you time I'll tell you what I know. Terminus is supposed to support RIP soon. (I provided Jack with some information he didn't have yet) Various people are working on XEM libraries, although I have no idea if it is true or not. If you are, please email me and I'll provide you with some useful stuff (I have converted all the fonts from the RIPTERM.FNT file… all you need to do is ask for them). Lastly, is a program that I am beta testing called AmigaRIP. It offers very good support (90% or so) of the protocol, but still has a few things needed before it will be released publically. Yeh, I am disappointed that the Amiga didn't lead the way on this instead of playing catchup. After all, this is the graphics oriented "better than windows" computer, right? Tom Oklahoma City, OK USA jonest@hfsi.com

Well, the Amiga *did* lead the way really… RIP is really just a refinement of the SkyPix protocol, which was very nice, but I only had a 2400bps modem then, so made the downloading of all the brushes etc a bit hard. Also, it used the Amiga IFF Brushes, which was good for Amiga users, but made it real hard to make it a BBS standard. If hey made it machine indeopendant then it may have taken off. (Like RIP). Anyway, can't wait to make up the Menu Set for our BBS using RIP, be real fun! Regards, Andre

After all, this is the graphics oriented "better than >windows" computer, right? i prefer gui when it comes to operating systems, but RIP doesn't do anything for me. maybe it is do to the fact that it is still in it's infancy or because to me it looks pretty generic. most of the RIP systems that i've cruised around look a like to me, but you can say that about a number of bbs systems that are designed to be run right out of the box (such as WildCat!, WWIV, VBBS, etc). they look the same unless the sysop is willing to spend the time & energy to customize the menus & colors. being an ex-sysop, i can understand the amount of work it takes to created a unique looking RIP system (which is why i never went RIP). so far, RIP doesn't strike me as anything other than a fad like bi-directional protocols. maybe that will change, i do not know. all i know is that it does do wonders for major bbs, which is just plane ugly without it. 🙂 (imho <bg>) it's funny how the ibm world is going ga-ga over RIP, when they used to call (and some still do) Amiga's & Mac's toys because of their gui interface. bob – zooming by in his TIE Interceptor on AutoPilot
