I have a question about Amiga 1200 video-output.
I own an A2000 with a de-interlacer and a NEC 4FG. This setup works great even
though NEC claims the vertical scanrate of 50Hz is not supported. Even 44Hz is
shown on the NEC-screen! (not recommended for long-term use because of an
overheating NEC and an overheating set of eye-balls)
Now just last month I bought an A1200 with VGA-output. I discovered that this
was not really a 'standard' VGA-output but rather bigger than one. This problem
was overcome with the available adapter. My next problem, however, was much
bigger: the vertical scanrate of 15kHz is NOT supported by the NEC 4FG! I'm
thinking of buying a second Multisync, but it's not very cheap. Is there (or is
there gonna be) some kind of device, like a scan-doubler, wich I can use to
hook up my NEC 4FG to my A1200 without losing my LOW-RES screen (like in games
and so on) ??

Well, if you ever find a scan-doubler for the 1200, tell me. I've got a
1200 and a NEC 5FG. 🙁 🙂

Have you tried using PPrefs? This is a third party software alternative
to Commodore's promotion software.
PPrefs lets YOU select which screenmodes get promoted, and into what.
You can also promote each resolution of each screenmode independantly.
There will still be programs that will never promote, unless you use
hardware to de-lace them.
PPrefs, should be somewhere in the libraries, with the name PPREFS.LHA.

In the meantime, have you thought of hooking a TV upto the Composite,
or to the RF modular? You could use the monitor for 31-kHz modes, than
flip to the TV for those 15-kHz modes.

Thanx 4 the reply. I guess PPrefs helps if your starting software from
workbench (HD) and/or from the CLI. Most software containing this problem
starts from diskette (e.g. games, demo's) and it's often not possible to start
any other program before.
I did use a TV for things like gaming and demo's, but the screenquality really
is POOR! 🙁 In the meantime i've been thinking about MicroVitec's
Multisync-monitor, being the 'cheepest' alternative without compromising my
screen-quality.

From memory:
The problem is that your deinterlacer on your 2000 actually doubled the scan
rate of your 15KHz screens to 31Khz. The 1200 will not do this. It can
promote some screens to 27KHz but not all (mostly games won't promote).
So in short, the 1200 will only work in MULTISCAN mode with the 4FG (I have
a 4FG here and I think thats the only mode that will work on it. It's been a
while since I tried the NEC with my 1200 so it may do the DBL modes as well.
But from memory MULTISCAN was the only mode that it really liked (ie. almost
full screen.))

Yep, I found out that everything with vertical scan >27kHz and horizontal scans
>50kHz (if you're lucky! official it's 55kHz!) shows on the NEC
The de-interlacer in my Amiga 2000 worx fine, though! Too bad. 🙁
