Hi all,
i'm currently doing multimedia developement and 3-d graphics on a IBM
compatible computer. Now i'm thinking about to "upgrade" to an Amiga 4000,
mostly because of the availability of powerfull 3-d software. An important aid
in my decision would be to know, if there is a MacIntosh Emulator for the
Amiga. For my next job I need to buy a Mac to run Adobe Photoshop, Macromind
Director and Adobe Premiere. If any body knows of a emulator that is stable
enough to run these programs, please leave me a note. Many thanks (and sorry

IS THERE EVER A MAC EMULATOR!!! Utilities Unlimited offers a great device known
as "Emplant." Search the message bases in Amigauser & Amiga Vendor forums for
discussions about it. (In Amiavendor, look at Utilities Unlimited's section…
lots of reat info.) I own an Emplant, and operate it in an A3000/16. It works
quite competently — much faster than AMAX ever could, I think. In a 4000/040,
I've heard it BLAZES, and acts like a Quadra (speed-wise), but that if you want
fast graphics displays, you need a 24 bit card like picasso, or merlin.
I've heard a lot about Emplant running PHOTOSHOP VERY well! Good luck…

danke fur den Tip. Ich dachte sowieso eher an eine EGS 28/24 oder eine Retina
3. Als Quereinsteiger ist es gar nicht so leicht, einen Uberblick uber den
Amiga Markt zu erlangen. Wenn du noch irgendwelche Tips fur Amiga Hard- und
Software parat hast ware ich dir sehr dankbar. Tschuss, Manfred.

Kein Problem. Leider bin ich sehr unregelmaessig am Netz, beantworte aber
dann gerne Fragen (soweit ich kann). Habe als seit mehr als ein Dutzend
Jahren leidgepruefter Endbenutzer selbst oft genug Lehrgeld bezahlen
muessen.
BTW die neue Amiga-Magazin 5/94 PD Disk 3 beinhaltet IntuiSpeed 1.5 zum
Testen von Grafikkarten.

It was a little handling mistake caused by me. This message was worked out
for Manfred (his native language is German indeed).
The German reply simply means the warning that AFAIK XPert (manufacturer
of Merlin display adapter) is gone bankrupt.

Yes, Bruno, as of today, V4.2 is the most current version I am aware of… I
hope you enjoy your purchase. I am sure you will. What Amiga model are you
going to plug the board into???

I'll plug Emplant into a slightly <g> improved A2000B (ECS, 50 MHz Rocket
Launcher, 38MB 32bit, 2MB Fast & 2MB ChipMem. OpalVision, AT controller &
SCSI host adapter, IBM 1GB HD, Toshiba 3401B CD, 1.76 HD flipperdrive and
WB2.1 with CrossDos on the AMIGA side).

Actually, you have two choices: Readysoft's AMAX IV and the Utilities
Unlimited Emplant board. Both handle color Mac stuff and will let you
multitask the Mac with the Amiga stuff. The Emplant seems more capable
over all and also offers the feature of allowing multiple simultaneous
emulations of more than one kind of platform; e.g., the next upgrade will
add support for a 486 PC emulation, which you could then run (assuming
enough system RAM) side by side the Mac emulation and the Amiga OS itself.
Three computers all at once on one machine!
Wait a minute here… people have been sadly misled. AMAX IV does NOT
'multitask'. It task switches instead. What is the difference? Well, try to
pull down a screen… try to do anything that uses intuition or any vital part
of the machine while AMAX IV is to the front… nada.
This is the ONLY reason why their CPU benchmark scores higher than ours.. the
Amiga is side is shutdown while they are running…
