#Commodore Layoffs 4/27

To all those interested:
At 11 am (4/27) today, approximately 47 individuals in engineering were laid
off from Commodore, in West Chester Pennsylvania – about 23 remain.
Of the CATS Developer group, 2 remain.

It was definitely the best job I ever had. I wish everybody from Commodore all
the best in the future.

My understanding is that about 20 people are left total — including, but
not limited to, engineering.

I'm sorry you lost your job supporting my favorite computer. I hope HP buys
c=, fires the CEO and the board of directors, comes out with the AAA line
supported by the PowerPC chip, and kicks but again.
what am I smokin? I dunno, but it must be good stuff.

From a user point of view this is really depressing, but regardless of the
future of the Amiga, I hope things will turn out okay for you and all the other
people laid off.

3DO hiring??…I think they could have a reunion party they have so many
Amiga people over there! 🙂 Between 3DO, Scala and maybe GVP. I would hope
many of the engineers will be able to find work.

What a shame; hope you find something decent soon. And a waste; like
others, I now imagine that the end of Commodore and the Amiga (at least
anything new) is coming soon.

So sad to see talent and technology marred by incompetent management. I do
strategic planning in marketing for a living, Commodore may be a case study.
The Amiga is like some creature that even endless stupidity couldn't kill. The
entire Amiga community waits next in line to be cast aside…

Very sorry to hear that Larry, this is the most depressing day since
Kennedy was shot, for me. I can't believe it has come to this.

Sad news.
Seems like Commodore has chosen a poor time to request developers to send in
their money for the Amiga Developer Support Program. Wonder how slim the
pickings will be?

They cashed my developer renewal in March, I was told all April renewals were
not. Although it now may be money down the drain, I hope someone at Commoddore
got paid an extra week for it.

Sorry to hear about the layoff for you and others 🙁
Can you give us some kinda dope on what is happening at CBM? All these
rumors about lawsuits, ships loaded with 4000's 1942 ect waiting in the
harbor for someone to pay the duty is driving me (and a few others) crazy.
Some true info would help sort things out.

Gee, Larry, I'm sorry to hear that.
Those of us still trying to support the Amiga (especially in the areas that
Commodore never supported, like Bridgeboards), are getting very depressed. All
the rumors are making people more and more hesitant to spend anything on their
Amigas, no matter how much we love them.
I hope you and the others find something soon…

I just drove by Commodore in West Chester. The lights were off and nobody was
home. Certainly a sad day for the whole Amiga community, and a personal loss
for all the people that have to look for work. Best wishes. Stephen Wagner
