Hi,
Sorry I'm late. NAB 94 was great! It seems to get better and better every year,
if more crowed. After awhile it becomes like a Zoo and you can't see as much so
you have to plan things out. I sure there were lots of others here who attended
so I look forward to reading the postings. Right off the top some things that
stick in my mind;
Multi-Media World is getting bigger and bigger and may soon overtake NAB?
It was great, Centuar/OpalVision showed the Video Processor, MONTAGE for
OpalVision, OpalPaint, the video suite and it was all very impressive. RGB had
some new editing solutions, DevWare showed Toaster Tools, MONTAGE's new
PostScript Module and more, Scala had a big booth with Alpha Video and Private
Channels. BTW Post-New Tek Paul, KiKi and friends were very visible for their
new DTV/Communications company PLAY, Inc., SGI built a small city as did Avid
and HP. It was clear to all that MM/DTV is here in a big way to stay. Meanwhile
and the main floor……..
SONY as usual had constructed the biggest booth of all with offices upstairs, a
Theater and I think they even had a whirlpool in there somewhere! What did
Abekas really like New Tek's booth last year or what?? They're slogan was "The
Revolution has Begun!" and featured a wild stage show with a hugh Digital
Switcher. It was fun. AND New Tek did it again annoucing a new non-linear
editing system for under $5000! This one is hot and called The Flyer. I got a
chance to speak with Lee and get a demo. It was soooo easy to create and edit
and their compression menthod, ASC (?), beats JPEG and MPEG hands down. Should
ship this fall and I'm sure they'll be lots more info here and in AmigaVendor.
New Tek's booth was alot more conservative this year and I didn't even hear
them say "Network's Suck" once :)! Tim was also very visible as were most of
the other folks from Topeka. They also had Raptor for Lightwave users and a new
PAL Toaster via Prime Images Passport 4000. It was all very impressive. One
other comment is that the Amiga was everywhere and I counted many new
developers and products for same.
If you have never attended NAB I highly recommend it. It may be the
nearest thing to a WOC we have left. It was fun but you don't get much sleep so
I'll look forward to others comments while I catch up on mine!

This year's main themes were NLE, Digital Video (high end like digital
BetaCam and D1 – D3).
New hazards this year were the pre-ponerance of people on cellular phones
who would spin wildly and suddenly putting out the eyes of iunnocent
by-standers. There seemed to be many more foriegn nationals attending
this year as well.
Another cellular phone observation: Women attendees must be more secure in
their jobs and professional status as they, by far, were less numerous as
pretnetious displayers of cellular use.

Hi Dan,
I'm told the OpalVision Video Processor will be out early this summer and will
be bundeled with MONTAGE for OpalVision, a special version of the program
created to take advantage of the units unique features. Retail will be about
$995 with internal installation done by a certified dealer. We demo'd MT24 with
the Video Processor at the OpalVision booth at NAB 94 and it was packed. I felt
folks who were there saw that there is now a real choice for DTV systems and at
a price that made them think twice.
Over 400 DVE's, multi-format compat, great signal and image quality, good 3rd
party support, eventual NLE A/B Roll editing, 24-bit painting, etc. It should
be worth the wait! Additionally anyone who buys a main OpalVision board from
April 1st to June 30th will recieve a FREE copy of MONTAGE 24! Good deal
considering CC's price these days. I'll post some more technical info later
next week. We should have a VP within the next week or so!! I'll keep all
informed.

The main OpalVision board has already been very useful for my videos. I
have used it's included program Backdrop 24 in conjunction with Broadcast
Titler II to overlay titles on 24 Bit backdrops. Also it's included
OpalPresents and Animation player have served me well in easily making tapes of
my work. The included animation player is great for playing 24 Bit Vista
animations.
I'm also anxious for the Video Processor but I'm more concerned that they
do it right and anyway I'm busy with the software & hardware I already have.
