Howdy Erik,
Do you remember a while back when you mentioned an animation
entitled "Arcade" I asked you if you were working on Full Moon
Entertainments Movie named Arcade? Well either way the Movie Arcade has
finally been released and I highly recommend it for the F/X work which
unfortunately was done by DHD in Montreal Canada on SGI's not Lightwave or
Imagine as I'd secretly hoped. Guess I'll have to send Full Moons Prez
Charlie Band a letter telling him about Lightwave 3D and it's Television
and film pedigree eh? Anyway Look for Arcade in your local video rental
joint, it'll probably be in the Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror section. There's
alot of cool FX and ALOT of Bluescreen work. My Fave is the Skycycle Chase
with Winged Skulls.

Funny that you should mention this since I was at the video rental place
about 2 weeks ago and rented Arcade. The movie was pretty sad but the F/X
looked really good. Did you see the `Making of Arcade' at the end of the
tape? I went thru and edited the movie and `Making of…' down to 14
minutes so I can show it at the user group.

Yes, Often Full Moons "Video Zone" is better than the movie. Tho in this
case I disagree I thought the movie Arcade was actually pretty good EXCEPT
for the ending which was rubbish.
BTW all Full Moon films have a Video Zone Behind the Scenes thingy now.

I thought it stole ALOT from TRON, but the problem I had was the
technology they showed looked more like a Tank game then a VR game. If you
are using VR gloves what would you need a joystick for?
The acting was typical `B' rating, in my opinion, except for the FX the
movie just didn't `do it' for me.
Btw, the user group LOVED the FX for Arcade.

The Joystick would be for directional Control. The Gloves for manipulating
things in the Virtual World. Every Movie Steals from Everywhere 😉

It's on Laser Disk Erik tho I'm not sure if you'd want to BUY the movie.
I collect Full Moon Movies Good and Bad. It's a good flick to watch even
tho the ending is Lame. I don't know if you'd want to own it tho.
full moon will be using lightwave for a dragon animation for one of there
films,i saw a demo reel of the dragon with 2 lw animated figures riding it-It
was really awesome and excellent work-the detail of the musculature was
jurrasic park quality,there seems to be no limits to the power of lw in the
hand of creative people.
Is the film using Lightwave entitled Prehysteria 3??? If not do you know
the name of the film? Thanx for the info.
There's a laser rental store where I rent all the recent releases – I
doubt I'd buy the movie, but for 3 bucks, I'd run it through my disc
player.

PMFJI, (sorry Peter for taking advantage of your thread) thanks for the
words on the Honeybee picture in the Euro-mag. That particular picture is
the last one you will see without a copyright on it. I was told that it
would problably show up somewhere without my permission (or knowledge) and
sure enough …
You must be pretty busy these days, I don't see you on CI$ as often as I
used to. Hopefully, it's good paying work, whatever it is. :^)
BTW, take note of my CI$ number. The message that you sent me was routed
through James Green's account (expired Presidio Software account). I've

Yeah, I've been kinda busy recently, but given last year's tax bill, and
recent hardware acquisitions, I _still_ don't think I'm getting paid
enough! :^)
That Honeybee was great! Did you get the Euro Mag for the CD-32 that had
the Honeybee on a CD-ROM that came with the 'zine?!? If not, it's a "must
have" item. (Kinda nice to be chosen for the 'first CD-ROM magazine for
the Amiga/CD-32' – even if the wankers didn't ask us first! <G>)
(BTW, virtually everything on the CD-ROM seemd to work from my 4000 – and
the disc mounts with a standard file structure so you can go peeking
around. I found the script for the audio narration in one subdirectory :^)
I just wish I could find a player for those CDXL movies…..

Actually, I haven't seen the "'zine." If you've got specifics, I'd
appreciate it (ie Magazine name, date, etc, etc).
I can't imagine that a CDXL player isn't far away. There's probably
already a "hack" around somewhere.

The March/April issue of Amiga User International sported an 'Amiga CD
Magazine!' on the cover (along with a copy of SuperBase on floppy disk).
It was designed for direct playback on CDTV or CD32s, but you can access
most everything from the WorkBench.
Their FAX # is 071 224 0547, and the managing Editor/Publisher is Antony
Jacobsen. I'm sure a politely worded fax thanking them for printing your
copyrighted artwork (w/o asking first) would probably net you a free copy
or two…..I've been meaning to FAX and ask them myself, but haven't
gotten around to it.

Hey, ELF, you wouldn't have any _overt_ reasons for suggesting everyone
run out and buy that issue of AUI, _would_ you, _hmm_??
Just me of course, but I thought seeing the Enterprise towing one of
your "3D Construction Co." banners was GREAT!!!! I'll tell you, a British
Amiga magazine was about the _last_ place I ever expected to see one of
your renderings! <BG>
Me, trying to get _MORE_ free advertising? Never! (However, I'll gladly
point out the adverts to anyone who might be interested. :^)
I'm glad you recognized it on the CD. I had wandered into the local Amiga
store looking to buy the CD just because it sounded like a cool idea. They
only had one copy and it was running on a CD32. I started poking around,
and was floored when I saw my image come up on the screen! (Talk about
your major ego boost!)
I still need to fax those guys and try to talk them out of a few extra
copies……
I was just making sure Alan Henry knew they'd put his image on it too. I
figured he'd want to make sure and get a copy, just like me.
BTW, were you viewing it on a CD32, CDTV, or std Amiga? If the latter,
have you had any luck playing thos cool CDXL movies?

I went out and suckered myself into buying a CD32, waiting until my
local store could get a _for_real_US_ version, but I'd already started
buying Amiga User International for the CoverCDs (not that I wasn't
already buying it on occasion for a particular review or program).
CDXL movies I don't know from, except that I've heard the name; AUI
manages to throw on something approximating "real video" (although only
about 50% screen size) but I don't know what it is (except that it looks
about like VeeDeeOh 4 Windoze, i.e., pretty bad)…. I was under the
impression that CDXL videos _would_ play on the CD32, but, as I say, I
haven't seen any (and I'm not holding my breath waiting for the Full
Motion Video module either)….
Amigavision Pro has CDXL Support and I believe Adpro's new version also
supports CDXL
I'm just looking for a runtime player. The one that comes on the CD just
kinda chokes after the first few frames…….Of course, it's probably
designed to run on CDTV or CD32 specific hardware.

Doesn't the new version of AdPro have a CDXL loader. If so, it seems to me
that it wouldn't be that big a job to write a script to load CDXL frames
and save anim frames.

Ahh….If I had only bought that b*tt-ugly program (ADPro), I'd be able to
spend five years creating an Anim file (w/o sound). :^)
No, I'm just looking for a run-time player that'll play CDXL movies.
(Since one of the strengths of CDXL is it's audio/video interleaving,
converting it to an Anim file would only solve half my problem.)

no the film is not prehysteria,i believe the title will be dragon world and
it's not finished yet so look for it in the next couple of months,also it is a
childrens film i believe and will be under a different label than full moon.
Yes I believe the Childrens Label is Moon Beam films. Thanx for the info.
Renting laserdiscs is the _only_ way to go. (I got in trouble for berating
my girlfriend last time she rented a VHS tape for viewing – "I'm not
putting _that_ tape in my expensive S-VHS deck!" :^)

Hhehehehehehehehe You sound like me. A friend of mine at work asked me to
copy a video of a B'day party for him, then gave me a IRISH brand tape. I
looked at it and told him to throw the tape away and buy a TDK or Maxell
as that tape would never see the inside of one of my video machines.
I wish I had a place locally to rent Laser Disks. I'm "FORCED" to buy the
ones I want, so far I've ammased in excess of 330, approx 25% of which are
Animation related. The way things are going I may start renting them out
😉
Espescially if a couple of the guys I work with get LD Players. As my
friend Billy said, it'd help me pay for the New aquisitions. He may be
getting 2 Players from a friend who no longer uses them due to not being
able to RENT the LD's hehehehehehehe

'IRISH' made tape?!? The box was made out of compressed potato skins,
right? :^)
With 330 discs you could well go into the rental business. I'm suprised,
though, that you can't find a rental place – I thought you lived near a
major eastern metropolitan center?
Will check for the disc next time I get out to rent some discs – been too
busy to think about that recently.

I live in Brooklyn New York, There's a couple of rental places in
Manhatten I believe but none that I know of here in Brooklyn to rent Laser
Disks.

There may well be, it's just that I've never really researched Rental of
LD's much. Just got 2 today, Carlito's Way and Freaked.
Have you been busy lately in the 3D animation realm? I've been pretty non
productive myself. I guess it's a lull while awaiting Imagine 3.0 to
arrive.

Let's see now… 330 laserdiscs, 25% of which are animation… do you mean to
tell me there actually are at least 80 animation laserdiscs on the market? Do
you know of a specialty mail-order house that carries them? Some friends of
mine would be very interested, I'm sure.

There's Literally HUNDREDS of Laser Disks of Animation. Espescially if you
include Anime(Japanese Animation) like Akira which is a Cyberpunkish
Extravaganza which I HIGHLY recommend!!!! Espescially the Criterion
Collection Version which is Dual Language English and Japanese. As to a
Specialty store/outlet for Laser Disks there's a LD dealer here on
Compuserve, Suncoast Video carries them, Ken Cranes carries them and then
there's my Fave Dealer

(any excuse to talk about my ex-home town, the one still dearest to my heart)
Montrealers know a lot about the Toaster, believe me. We have the biggest
Toaster dealer in Canada, MDL (Maison du logiciel — Software house) and
several networks use the Toaster. Remember a recent Video Toaster User issue
showing a Canadian election coverage image? That came straight from
Tele-Metropole, the same network where I had the delightful surprise of finding
a 3000 behind my podium on Jeopardy!
An amusing anecdote, but I have no idea where to send it: last time I visited,
I grabbed La Presse and The Gazette to read on the way back. A local arts
college was advertising its computer graphics courses, a dozen in all, split
amongst the big 3 graphics platforms. In the english ad, the computer courses
were listed in the order: Mac, PC, Amiga. In the french paper, the same ad read
Mac, Amiga, PC! I had a chuckle when I spotted it, and tried unsuccessfully to
come up with an explanation that wasn't contrived.

I've ALOT of family near Montreal on the Indian Reservation of Kahnawakke.
It's about 7 miles from Montreal near Chategui(I don't remember the
spelling but it's something like that)
Nice to see Canadians using Toasters. There's a Lot of Canadian made shows
on TV nowadays too like Kung Fu the Legend Continues and the Old Friday
the Thirteenth Series. Also on Sci Fi Channel is "The Science Show" which
is a Canadian Film Group Production.
