Hi.
Did you ever hope for some kind of an IPAS that would let you collide
objects and have them automatically deform each other: say a hand grabbing a
rubber ball and sinking its fingers in it. Would it be possible with something
like that new Dynamic Motion Module? Or am I just dreaming about some
impossible thing that I might as well shoot with a camera in real life? How
about muscle tension! Now there's a tough one: make a hand tense or relaxed.
Have any tips or suggestions for such radical character animation?
Thanks!
Philippe,
We do not have this capability. It would require some pretty intense CPU power,
along with a fairly complex routine. Still, object deformation is the next
logical step after collision detection, so we may take a look at it in the
future. While it requires manual labor, objects may be morphed or deformed
after DMM has calculated the collisions. In some cases, this would be useful
(like squishing a ball). In other cases, like draping a cloth over a chair, it
would not work.
We have some pretty ambitious goals for SIGGRAPH.
