Hi to all, I have a little problem with raytraced shadows. I have a archictural scene with 180,000 triangles. I use raytraced shadows with a bias of 0.01 and a pixel size of 1.5. When I render the scene I see wrong shadows. Sometimes a shadow is interrupted, uncomplete. Sometimes the shadow is far away from physical correctness. I thought I can manage it with the shadow bias but it is already 0.01. Any suggestions? Michael

If Jonas was here, I'd say that you could send it off to him so he could look at it and tell you what was going on with it. He's on vacation for the next 8 days, so if you want to use that option, you'll have to wait until then. – G

<<He's on vacation for the next 8 days, so if you want to use that option, you'll have to wait until then.>> Au Contraire Mon Frere! Files can be sent to Brian or Nik as well, and files that are sent to Jonas are automatically forwarded to one of us while he is away. -Brian

That's great! Thanks (Brian and Nik) for taking care of this. – G

Michael, If you can reduce your 3DS file to a simple project which can reproduce the problem, you can send it to any Autodesk Sysop, (Jonas, Brian, or Nik). -Brian

Hi Brian, I`ll take a look at it but I don`t think that I can reduce it to less than 5 megs… 🙂 Michael

<<I`ll take a look at it but I don`t think that I can reduce it to less than 5 megs… :-)>> A 5 meg file over Compuserve would be very unwieldy. Can't you reduce the mesh to just a few entites that exhibit the problem? I don't need to see every entity that has this behavior, and I don't need your whole animation. Just enough so that I can see what is happenning. However if you absolutely can't reduce it below 5 megs, perhaps you might prefer to send it in on diskette instead. You could create a ZIP file, and then use the SPLIT and COMBINE file utilities to break it up onto a few floppies which you could mail to me. If you want to use mail, please send it to: Autodesk Inc. Attn: Multimedia Technical Support 111 McInnis Parkway San Rafael, CA 94903 -Brian
