#video card help
15 messages in this thread
Hi Jonas,
I have been using ComputerEyes Pro to import and digitize images and
Magni VGA Producer to export my .flc's to ntsc TV and to video tape. I was
wondering if there is a single card that would do both jobs and even fit into a
PCI slot in my new PC? Before I move over the hardware from my old system I was
wondering what else might be available since this system is at least 4yrs old.
Any ideas you or others may have would be greatly appreciated…Thanks…

Hi Ed,

Sorry, I don't know of a single card solution. Anyone else?

Ed,
FWIW, a Targa+ or a Targa clone board would be a good single slot choice.
Although they only come in one flavor, ISA…

The Magni VGA Producer Pro is a hard card to beat, good quality and features.
The Targa card has a number of clone-types. Check out April 26, 1994 PC
Magazine for some information on a number of video-in cards.
Thanks to you all for speedy reply…I'll just have to figure out a way
to 'squeeze' the boards into my new midi tower. I didn't realize the problems
in space available the new system would create…Thanks again.

Thanks Ed – glad I could be of assistance.
Nik,
Have you or anyone else ever heard of a product called 'Studio Magic'? I
saw the package at a local retailer and they were unable to answer any
questions I had. It looks to me like it has video in and out capabilities and
that it would be able to work with .flc and .gif files. I just found out that
my Magni VGA Producer will not work in the new system. Any feedback on 'Studio
Magic' would be very helpful…Thanks…

I don't know about Studio Magic, but I am surprised that the MAGNI won't work.
I have had nothing but success with those cards. What problem are you having
with the Magni?

Brian,
Before doing something that would 'smoke' my PC I decided to call the
company and ask if I could expect any problems. They told me that my card would
not work with the Pentium mother board. Something about 'voltage or power'
incompatability…I haven't tried the physical move…

Did you call the PC comany, or did you call MAGNI Systems? If you called MAGNI,
I would believe it. If you called the PC company, I would get the real story
from MAGNI.
This power voltage thing something I have never heard before.

I spoke to Magni not the PC company. All I really need is a device that
outputs my .flc's to video or TV in S-VHS or RCA plug video out NTSC.

If Magni said it, I would tend to believe it. They are usually quite good in
that area. I've just never heard of that being a problem in the past.
magni's are very well thought of, you might be able to sell it in the take 5
section.
<<All I really need is a device that outputs >>
Well, I am not allowed to recommend hardware, but I can tell you that I use a
PAR for that purpose here.

Thanks so much for you helpful reply…I just have to convince my son
that he doesn't need the Magni in his system(it will work in his 486) and I
will use the #5 section in this forum. BTW, I can't seem to locate the way to
contact the mfg. of the "PAR". Could you E-mail me any info you may have…?
Thanks again for your help…

I was expecting some limitation based on the video card – the adapter feature
my decide whether or not the Magni Producer Pro works.
No, Studio Magic – don't know about it.
