MPEG Encoding
12 messages in this thread
I have been investigating MPEG encoding and CD-i/Video CD authoring and have
found hardware to purchase or bureau services to encode video in real time, but
at a price.
I was wondering whether there was any software available which could encode
say Targa or AVI files into a compatible MPEG file.

martin,
Check out Xing CD. Old # I had for them was 805/473-0145 & 206/284-0777
(2 locations).

Thanks Kevin, I'll give them a ring.

Xing CD does a pretty nice job. Works really well with a Targa2k. Also look at
the MARS system by DAEWOO Ind.. Its an MPEG/NTSC encoder with VHS and S-Video
out, sound support AND comes with an MPEG'ing IPAS … never have to go to
TGA's. A pretty nice solution. List about $1,500.

What sort of process is involved in the conversion. Does it handle the Targa2k
.DVM format directly.

Sounds like a pretty good solution compared to the Optibase stuff I was
looking at (11,000 pds UK). Any chance the MARS system works in PAL.

'Sure does; output is 352×288 at 25FPS for PAL.

At this point you have to save the file as an AVI file .. then convert. Prettly
painless. It has batch mode processing which is also nice
>> PAL
