Dave, I haven't seen any traffic here on Section 18 in the past few days, so I am just writing myself a message to confirm my software is working correctly. – Dave

I'm here lurking and writing scripts like krazy – messing about with flocking.

Jim, >> flocking ??? << I'd hesitate to even call it flocking, more like a bird explosion with some bird-like behaviours.

Martin, You are too humble. I was simply AMMAZED. I find it remarkable that when a particularly tough effect is needed, someone could sit down and write code to produce it. This 3DS script language makes me wish I had more programming skills. (or more time to learn them <g>) 🙂 Ralph

Ralph, the script language is designed to be the most simple implementation of code possible – basic BASIC. No cryptic syntax to cause you grief. It's possible to tweak the code quicker than modify hundreds of key frames. I love it 🙂

Hey, Martin. As always, I'm impressed by nearly everything you do. Are you using TSE, or just the normal script stuff with R4? I've been debating buying TSE for about a month now — just when I think I've made up my mind that, as a programmer, I really should plunge in and start writing things, I decide that my hobby of animation shouldn't become a job to me, and I'll leave it to the experts to write the 3D stuff. And then I get a flyer from Scrieber about their particle systems and decide I could write all that stuff myself if I had TSE.

Mike, >> Are you using TSE, or just the normal script stuff with R4? << I have a late beta of TSE with early docs. So, I actually just use the script.kxp that comes with r4. It's OK for most of what I do, but I'd like the full docs and latest TSE's to explore further. The whole concept of TSE is just so cool, I'm really quite in love with the potential of customising my own scenes with it.

Jim, >> Are you scripting or using a Routine? << why scripting, of course. This is the scripting section.

>I'm here lurking and writing scripts like krazy< Anything you'd care to share???? -DC-
#162300From: MARTIN G FOSTERApr 2, 1995 12:50 PM
David, re: flocking >> Anything you'd care to share???? << everything I do is so quick, dirty and utterly custom that it wouldn't do anybody any good. I'm involved in an insane production environment and there's no time for polishing stuff up, even for freeware use. Maybe after this production is over I'll polish it, or have somebody else take it a bit further.

Thanks Just curious to see whats happening out there in the real world. Please let me know if you upload anything Bye -DC-

Chris, >> Please do, I'd like to see what kind of bird-like behaviours exploding birds exhibit… %^) << well, I should really say they act like a startled flock which is leaving with maximum haste. Exploding only in the metaphorical sense.
