Sharp 320 Scanner

Perry (or anyone else), do you have a Sharp 320 scanner yet? I've seen ads
for them and read short descriptions so I assume they are available? I'm
very interested in a detailed comparison with the Epson 300, since I had
already decided to buy the Epson, but now I've been hearing about the new
Sharp model. Specifically, what's the maximum scan size, maximum DPI, and
can DPI be set or changed by the scanner hardware itself? Thanks for any
info you have on this….

Indeed we do have a JX-320. A very nice scanner. Same size and scanning
resolution as the EPSON. An advantage to the Sharp is that it is very very
fast running over our GPIB interface. A downside of this is the additional
cost of the interface. Another advantage of the Sharp is its ability to be
adapted to scanning slides and transparancies.

pk, you say that the JX-320 is 'very very fast' when running over the GPIB
interface. How fast is 'very very fast'? 🙂
Assume 1) an 5×7" photo, and 2) a 8×11" page. 300dpi, 24bit color?

Very very fast means…faster than a JX-450 which is 7000 dollars. You can
figure on at least 200,000 bytes per second (width x height x 3).

Noooooo….. that fast? That means a 1000×600 24bit scan (I realize that
is only 3.3"x2" at 300DPI) would be done in about 9 seconds? Does your
software handle the input and processing that fast?
If true, all I can say is WOW!!
