#Meshpaint 3D

Brent,
After playing with MP3D I was wondering if, when you rotate your geometry, it
can maintain a rendered state? The demo version we have flips back to a
wireframe. Otherwise, it looks incredible!
Thanks,
Dave Thompson, Sony Pictures Imageworks
Frank,
Longtime no talk to….in the release version, the object is automatically
rendered when the Paint tool is selected. On a very fast machine and video
card, it might be possible to maintain a rendered view, but I have my doubts
about being to do so at this time. However, you may want to increase the
wireframe detail level in the preferences menu. At the highest level, the mesh
should maintain a great level of detail and be better for your purposes.
Maybe someone will introduce a board that is 3DS compatible and capable of
enough polygons per second to maintain a shaded view.
Thanks for the comments! Give me a call sometime.

Brent,
I've got another question on the DEMO. How is it possible to make the brush
size very fine, for painting thin lines with sharp edges? I haven't been able
to figure this out yet, and we'll be showing the demo at our 3DS meeting this
weekend. And did I hear something about your possibly uploading some new
brushes? If so, how would these be installed? (Or is there info in the
libraries? I'll check.) Also; I think I read that it is possible to paint on
top of an existing texture map on an object; could you clarify this?
Thanks mucho!
John
PMFJI,
All you need to do is click on a "New Brush" window and the settings
will pop up allowing you to define a new brush.

John,
>>Did I hear something about your possibly uploading some new brushes?
One of our users uploaded a new brush set last night. Should be posted today or
tomorrow.
>>If so, how would these be installed?
All you need to do is click on the Load button in the Brush Set menu. From
there, select the proper file.
>>Also; I think I read that it is possible to paint on top of an existing
texture map on an object; could you clarify this?
Begin by clicking on the Load button at the top of the screen. From there any
3DS compatible image may be loaded. Once loaded, click on the Render button.
Next, set the opacity level to your liking so that the paint strokes will blend
with the texture map image.
Thanks for your questions. We did compile a 1.0 Demo version that I haven't
uploaded here yet.

This may have been asked before, but is it possible to paint on part of the
mesh(certain faces) and have mapped material on the rest of the mesh?
Judy
Judy,
The only way with the 1.0 version is to select the faces in the 3D Editor (by
material grouping if you like), and performing a Save Selected. The object that
you save should enable you to create a map.
This isn't a perfect solution, but has worked for users interested in it. We
will add this feature in a future version.
Brent
Thanks for the info. I just bought the product but it looks like I won't be
able to do much with it until I can call you guys on Monday for the password
🙁
Judy
Judy,
If you e-mail me the Key, I'll e-mail you the password. We've been working the
weekends as well until this gets under control.

Any word on when you're going to send out the release version to those of us
who bought early? I called last Monday and Carrie said it would get sent last
Wednesday.
I'm just curious — actually, I have so much going on right now I can't get
around to painting.
Mike,
All pre-release and beta units have been sent upgrades. Most went out last
Thursday.
Thanks for your patience.
