Hello fellow ASOFTers, If anyone wants to see what I was TRYING to accomplish with clever uses of Vapor in FLAMROCK.ZIP – check out METEOR.JPG, it blows my image out of the water. It uses a new routine from Digimation – "Lenzfx Lumina". it's REALLY cool. Both are in the IPAS Library (#1). -Kyle

How long does it take to regen the sample window on YOUR machine? <BBG>

🙂 I only used 3 emitter boxes for that. particles ranged in # from 300 to 1000. The thing that kept me up all night was trying to get the particles to blend together.

I think Lee you were refering to me about Lumina about the refresh, I created the meteor.jpg. Yes the refresh is slow but not as long as the render time of flames, vapor. I have realized when to shut off the auto preview and when to turn it on. The effects you can create are awsome though. I have been using extsensivly in game development." Wetlands", from New World Publishing. Frank Delise, 3D-animator

"Wetlands" interesting, a salesman from Macromedia just enlightened us into the joys of Director at our UG meeting last night and had some interactive immage which he claimed comes from that. Sound familiar? I have been working with Lumina for a couple weeks and on a 486/66 and it has been painfull to say the least. I did manage to come up with a few interesting settings which I sent to DaveA to include with the shipping version. I tried to demo it for the users group last night and after two regen cycles everyone was screaming at me to move on. I'll either have to get a pentium soon or perhaps Aaron will have a breakthrough in speed of rendering although I understand this is a fractal thing. I can remember sitting in front of my AutoShade R1, waiting for an image from the mandelbrot set to generate eeeek.

LEE, If you are interested in "Wetlands" its in this months PC-GAMMERS, a two page review. Its is an all 3Dstudio rendered game. Also in the ipas forum there are two images from this game, Under World City, and Starship. Frank DeLise…

Kyle, Thanks for the compliment. The meteor you created is really cool too, The difference is that your meteor can travel in any direction ,cast shadows and reflect in other objects its a little more complicated for me to accomplish that Because the gasses i used is really a light source and a post effect. Thanks, Frank Delise 3D-Animator

Frank, hmm . . so you're saying you can't animate that great gaseous stuff? I figured that you could just attach it to an object and . . blamo! there it was. am I correct? How do you go about applying this filter – same as Aura, or Flare? -Kyle
#164356From: FRANK DELISEApr 12, 1995 12:30 PM
Kyle, It's definitly Animatable thats for sure with to many options. You Can attach it it's a light source. Were ever you can put a light you can put gas ,flames, explosions, fog, nebuals, It is a button you click on in lenzfx that lets you add these gases to a flare, aura,or starlight. For example if you have a spaceship engine that you are glowing with aura, click on the button called turbulence adjust some settings and as you say "Blamo!" now you have gas emmiting engines. The gases can hide behind objects, and emmit from objects if you put a light in the center of the object and click the button MOVE IN SCENE. I just uploaded a quick and dirty animation of the meteor moving through space in the ipas forum. It will probably show up tomorrow morining.

Thanks for the good info . . I'll look for your animation. -Kyle

It seems that Lumina feeds off the Aura and takes it's place. It's not really seperate, you can add it in Flare and Aura but not Starlight or Focus. It's almost like "Gradient Noise" where you control the color and all other properties. Check your e-mail, I'll send you a screen-grab.

PMJI, but is this new lumina effect part of LensFX, or another add on? I have version 1.3 of LensFX, and if this is an upgrade then I want. If it's yet another dongle protected separate product, then no thanks. LensFX was the last dongle program I'm buying.

Mike, As far as i know it is a software upgrade that adds on to your exsiting Lenzfx to make version 1.5 no addition HW-lock.. frank

John, I see your name here alot, If your interested I have just purchased a dec-alpha w/4 -190 mhz proccesors w/256 meg ram and its the size of a refrigerator running lightwave. I have been testing it for weeks and so far a P90 is not to far away when comparing 3d-studio. Actualy 3d studio renders a sphere faster then this machine running lightwave. So if you are interested in speed tests or future purchasing descions, email me and dont make my mistake that bigger is better…

Hi Frank, Looks like you're doing some nice work. Glad to hear with all that horsepower you're a 3DS fan as well. I bet you'll love R5. <G> I'm trying very hard not to get into this LW 3DS debate. I do have a few associates who use LW and I respect what they can do with it. However, I don't have that kind of patience, I like getting the job done. I spend 12 to 14 hours a day on it as it is… And as I've mentioned previously I much prefer the look of 3DS, which is the main thing. As an all around package its a flawless performer, and stable. Its getting a little tired and needs some upgrading, but I could use it for another year with out restriction. With R5 due to be released shortly and all the new IPAS there's never a dull moment. In fact its hard to keep up. BTW I think you should keep your 3D Animator moniker. But you might consider adding an S on the end. (3DS Animator) <g>
