I'm originally from Roch. also. Now I'm out near Albany. As far as I know, the closest 3DS user groups to us are located in Boston or down in the City. How many 3DS folks are there in Roch.? Maybe we could start a WNY chapter.

Hey Paul, Thanks for the reply. To tell the truth, I don't Know of any other users in my area. I'm sure there out there but I feel like I am my only teacher on this program. I read as much as I can find and I experiment with the program on my own, but feel limited by this. I am an intern architect and do most of my work at a large firm in here in Rochester on a cad system. I think becoming well versed in 3-D Studio will pay of for me. I have a registered copy of ver. 3 and am open to sugjestions on good reading or other sources of info. Tanks again. Seee-Ya!!

Hi Scott, <<< I am an intern architect … >>> Did you graduate from UB? I did back in '88. <<<I don't Know of any other users in my area. >>> Ask your dealer. Also, you might want to try over at RIT. They have a good CG program over there. <<< …am open to sugjestions on good reading or other sources of info…>>> I personally have the "Tips and Tricks" series, "3DS Applied" and 3DS Special Effects. All are very good. "Inside 3D Studio" seems to be the unofficial bible for 3DS. 'will get that when the others are paid for <g> . "Fallingwater in 3D Studio" is highly regarded for architectural rendering… There's a complete book listing in the libraries here, also you may want to try, ftp.3dartist.com. There's a few good info files there as well. While you're there, ask for a sample copy. Current issue is #18, features Architectural rendering and Texture mapping. There's also a new publication that has started up called Planet Studio. I haven't read one yet, but there's been plenty of comments about it in this forum. It also has an informational file in the library here. How's that for starters? And don't forget about ASOFT… er, excuse me, AMMEDIA or whatever the GO word is now… If you have problems finding the files let me know and I'll send 'em to you. Until later, Paul

Paul If you decide to try and start a 3DS User Group get in touch with Toby D'Elia at (415) 507-6565, NAAUG liason at Adesk, so you can get a UG Starter Kit. Lots of very useful info. Good luck TedB !^NavFont01F0007MGHHG9FE9AC

Ted, << …start a 3DS User Group get in touch with Toby D'Elia… >> Thanks for the info, 'save that one for later. If this thing pans out, could I and come an visit one of your meetings to see how it's done? Paul

Paul Certainly you can come to check out a few meetings! Rochester is quite a haul, but Boston is a nice place to visit in the summer. Keep me informed. Another thing to keep in mind, Autodesk will do a mailing to all 3DS registered owners in your area if you start a group.

Ken Liszewski from beautiful downtown Buffalo checking in here. I do not know of any UG's in the WNY area. We may have to start one, if there is enough interest. As Vice President of the Buffalo IBM-PC User Group (BIBMUG), I'd be willing to help start one. We have an office in North Tonawanda that can be used for meetings, or perhaps we can meet in Rochester (there may be more 3DS users there). I'll check with my dealer next chance I get for info.

Hi Ken, It would be great if we could put together a 3DS UG, but I would be surprised to find enough interest. I lived up in Buffalo for about 18 months while I was finishing up my degree in architecture and would be more than happy to make the trip for meetings. If we can find the peaple, lets do it. I'll keep looking in this area for more users and keep you informed.
