Is there an easy way to create a thunderstorm effect including the lightning in
keyframer..maybe a third party add-on? Does anyone know about such an add-on?
I believe SCHRIEBER Instruments has such a routine, in fact they are running a
1/2 price special on it until the end of May, it looks like it comes with 5
other cool routines.

The lightning is a piece of cake with Schreibers FX package which is on sale
BTW. The thunderstorm is a little bit more complex depending on what kind of an
effect you're going for. There's no IPAS to date for this.
You could create billowing clouds and morph between them, just depends on how
much time you want to spend to get the look you want.

A quick and dirty way to make lighting:
..In a paint package, Altamira Composer is great for this, paint a set of
lightening forks.
..Cut or float the forks, and paste them with several levels of blurring
behind the original.
..Make a lightening material with self-illumination, and decal map it to a
flat plane.
..Morph or scale the flat plane in the animation and increase the ambient
light at each strike to produce the flash.
This can be done in 15 minutes and is very controllable.

Michael,
There is an effects paint program called WinImages FX by Black Belt Systems.
The program is supported in the Animation Vendor A forum (GO ANVENA).

Oops, I forgot to say that WinImages FX is good at creating and animating
lightning.
