I am looking for an updated driver for 3D Studio R3 AND AutoCAD R13 on a
Diamond Viper card. This driver will be put into my autoexec.bat file so they
need to work on both (if possible). I will be recieving 3DS R4 soon but it may
take a few weeks. I really need this information asap because my boss-man is

Hi Jonas, I am using a NEC Pentium laptop (VERSA/P75) which is capable of
displaying 64000 colors and it does so in Windows. I don't know how to make the
driver accesible to 3DS4. This machine uses the CHips 655dgx-VL/ISA. We are
currently using 3DS4 to produce animations for a major Paramount movie
("Virtuosity", with Denzell Washington) and this laptop is our means of showing
the director on the set what we are doing in the CG dept. I would appreciate
very much if you can help me with this problem.

Michael,
AutoCAD R13 on a Diamond Viper card.
Look in the ACAD Forum for the Free Vibrant Display Driver; supports Release
10/386 – release 13 DOS.

Hi Blake, we are currently producing 3d animations for a major Paramount movie
using 3DS4. Our means of comunicating with the director on the set and showing
him "dailies" from the CG dept. is a NEC laptop (VERSA Pentium 75) This is
capable of displaying 64000 colors given the right drivers for 3DS4. You think
you can help us locate the right driver?

Arturo,
I'll look see what I can find out and give you a call. Are you sure that the
notebook can display all of those 64000 colors at the same time or just 256
colors from a pallet of 64000 at the same time? Either way, I'll find some
info for you.
Blake
Hi Blake, thanks for the reply. I believe the laptop can display 64000 colors.
At least that what it seems like from Photoshop or Painter (No dithering, very
smooth gradients) I will appreciate your efforts to help me solve this problem
since 3DS is my main application and the director of the film can't really
judge the shots accurately with the current dithering
Thanks again
Arturo
Michael – You can download the latest version of the Panacea driver that came
with your card from the Panacea BBS at (603) 432-5193. The file is called
DIAMOND.EXE. The driver supports AutoCAD R13 (DOS only), 3DS 3, and 3DS 4.

Panacea Software
Jeffrey,
I am concerned about support for the Matrox Illuminator Pro which unlike many
other graphics boards in their line is under the Video Products Group. In
particular, as I know they plan to support 3DS directly, I wondered what it
would take to convince them to allow 3rd party developers to support NT
directly. You may not have an answer for this, but you might pose the question
to them. Actually the person I spoke with in this regard, was part of the 3rd
party developer support group, which additionally supports the drivers.
The Illuminator Pro is a great framebuffer and I would like to be able to use
it in a display configuration as well as part of a two monitor configuration so
that I can work with paint packages and some NLE systems like the DPS PVR and
the to be released Bravado software by D/Vision which is supposed to be
hardware independent. I'm concerned because it is not a high priority on
Matrox's part as evidenced by their unwillingness to give a a definitive time
frame for when if ever a display driver will be developed. They are willing to
support 3DS as a Render display and output device, but not NT directly.
I'm not sure what you can do, or if you have any interest considering the size
of the market but I'm bringing as much attention to this issue as I can because
I think this board is well suited for the emerging desktop video market, and if
Matrox is not interested maybe Panacea is.
Thanks for your consideration,
John Ellis Anigrafix, inc.
John – Thanks for your suggestion. As far as I know, Panacea is not developing
NT drivers at this time, but that could change in the future. As a lowly
support technician, I probably can't influence the decision much, but I will be
happy to pass your suggestion on to our PTB.

Thanks, I apprecaite that Jeffery, I think the fact that there are 3 platforms
with potentially more to come, will provide ample opportunity in support of
drivers in the NT environment.

FWIW I don't think that title applies to anyone in this industry; over worked
and underpaid probably… <g> but there's too much skill and dedication
required for anything resembling that description. 🙂

John

Thanks, John. That's worth a lot.
