Hey everyone… I'm going to purchase an Intel Motherboard (90 or 100Mhz) and I'm wondering if anyone has heard the latest stats for the chipsets. I had originally heard that the Plato chipset was the fastest, but since then Intel has come out with the Neptune… Does anyone have info on which is faster? Maybe one I haven't mentioned?? "Always lookin' for a little MORE speed…" :>) -Glen

The Triton will be the latest. It should be shipping now. It's claim to fame is support for the new EDO RAM. John

Glen, I'd suggest a Pentium 120 with Triton Chipset, pipelined cache, and EDO RAM (when available in larger than 4 mg chips). You'd have yourself a monster of a machine! Or, even better, if you can hold and (not to mention shell out) for the P6 (chip should sell initially for approximately $1000, go with that. P6 is supposed to be much better tested & engineered, and of course, faster, than current Pentiums…and soon to be available. Hold on to your hat! -Scott Lawrence

Scott, Thanks for the advice… I'm probably gonna go with that config., but of course it depends upon "the funds"! As with anything in this industry, as soon as you buy, everything goes down about $500 the next day. Oh well. I think waiting for the P6 is sort of like waiting for Win95 – you know its coming – you know its better – but WHEN?? I figure I'll go with the P5 now, and hopefully I'll have the money to shell out for a P6 when it comes around. Thanks again. -Glen

Glen, Just keep in mind that the P6 won't fit in the P100 mobo socket! Different size & pin config. -Scott

Scott, You know, sometimes I think Intel & Microsoft head up this cult that we unknowingly ALL belong to… we just agree with the design decisions and give them all our money every year for something "so much better, you can't live without it". :>O I knew that the P6 was a radically different chip, so I didn't figure it would plug into any P5 motherboard… I'll just keep the cult in business and spend the money again next year… Oh well. Thanks for the info! P.S. I've heard weird things happen when you chant "Bill Gates" backwards… <G> -Glen
