#A PAR Question

Hi. I'm looking into the PAR as a way of transfering animation quickly to
video. I've had access to a mac running the ImMix system. What I was
wondering about the PAR is compression noise. Is this an obvious problem?
I've noticed definite compression noise on the ImMix, especially in large, flat
areas of color (where, I assume, the compression is the greatest). I've seen
the PAR demo tape and it looks great, but it's hard to tell from that. Any
info would be appreciated.

There is a file in Lib 6 called PARFAQ.TXT Its the specifications for the PVR
which is the new SCSI PAR. It hasn't been released but will be previewed as
NAB. Looks very promising. In the meantime checkout the Txt file…

I won't be going to NAB, but I know somebody that will. I'll have him check
out the new PAR system & report back. My biggest concern is visual compression
noise. The ImMix gives excellent results, plus the editing capabilities speed
things up considerably, but there's still a considerable amount of noise, in my
opinion.
Glen, I;ve had my PAR now for about 3 months and have been very happy with it.
There is compression artifacts on large areas of color also, but they are not
readily apparent. The ouptut is very nice. But, since DPS just released the
info on the new Perception Video Recorder, I'd wait for that to be released if
I was going to buy one now. SHould be out soon, although the system
requirements are a little stiffer. See the PERFAQ.TXT file for more info on it.
It _sounds_ so cool. Makes me sad to have just gotten my PAR a couple of months
ago. Oh well, I feel you will be more than happy if you get the PAR. I've used
it for a couple projects out to Beta SP and the results are awesome. The client
never noticed any form of compression artifacting. You really need to be
looking for it to see it.

I'm more aware of the compression noise than, I assume, my clients. Video
tends to hide some of it, and transfer to Beta SP, as opposed to 3/4 or vhs,
means a little less image loss, but it's still there. I'd have to see the PAR
(or the new upgrade coming soon) in action before I made a decision. Thanks
