#Backing up Par

I have an external DAT tape backup system (DDS-2 ;scsi external) that operates
thru Windows…specifically, Adaptec SCSI Tape Backup. The problem is that I
can't get the program to recognize my PAR drive (E:) in order to back up. I use
Razor Pro – that is a Windows based program and it recognizes my Par
drive…even the File Manager recognizes it. Am I trying to go about this the
wrong way?
The other thing that I tried was to export files from PAR to my "D" drive – ( a
1 gig external hard drive) and then back up. I was exporting .TGAs but that
filled my drive pretty fast at 1.5 meg per – realize that this is a 9555 frame
animation I'm dealing with, so I'm only writing out 900-950 tgas before my
drive is full. Somebody, please, tell me there's a better way. The 9555
frames, as an .ANI file, is 708 meg…so what I'd **like to do** is just
back-up the ani file and restore it when I need it again. Am I being
rediculous ? I realize that we all don't always get what we want. Yet I'm
still hoping someone can put me on the "path to righteousness".

About the windows problem with backup I have no clue why.
However copying to your D: drive as TGA's, is easy to solve just put your PAR
software in PAR mode then it will export the ANI files as 1 large ANI file, if
you put the PAR in TGA mode it will export sequential TGA files.
The most easy way to do that is to start PAR.exe under dos and set the PAR
export button to PAR and not TGA.

You might try using Norton Backup. I use it here with our 8mm exabyte, and
norton sees it all, including the PAR drive. I have had good success with it,
after trying several other backup programs that were lacking in one way or
another.

The way I've been backing up my PAR has been to export one .ani file(PAR
native) to my computers HD and then back it up to my 4mm DAT. To put it back
on, I back it off the DAT to my computers HD, optimize the PAR drive(VERY
IMPORTANT) then import the .ani file to the PAR drive using the PAR software.
It seems to work very well.

running the new PAR software (I believe is 1.5) I am having success backing up
ANI files directly from the PAR drive to Colorado Jumbo 250 and then directly
back to the PAR. Granted, an exabyte would be more efficient, but hey… I'm
truck'n. I'm using Colorado Backup in DOS with no problems. Jeffrey
