#3DS OS/2
6 messages in this thread
I want to congratulate Autodesk for such an amazing product that are the 3-D
Animation Studio, I am really happy using them but I like to see an OS/2 port.
Why?
Bacause i want to see that exploit the features of the Operating System like
32Bit, Multithreading, etc..
I think that 3DS can gain much, and i think that OS/2 it's the right operating
system to see it, Windows NT it's costly (for their price and for the computer
that need to run) and Windows 95 it's not here, and it's not tested, OS/2 V3
have 1 Million of copies sold and I think that this can be of some weight to
you, if you already have a port to Windows 95 it is suposed that it's easy to
port to OS/2 with One Up call IBM for details and of course if you port it I
will buy 2 Copies if this is Someting for you….
O.K. i just want to say this words.
Fernando,
Autodesk has recently announced that 3DS will be moving to NT with Release 5.
While OS/2 has some great features (I know, I use OS/2 now), NT has the same
stuff. I was pushing for an OS/2 release myself, but now that the decision has
been made, I'm just as happy with NT. Anything but DOS's inane 640K problem!
Granted, NT is a little bulkier, but lets face it: Development for OS/2 has
been severly lacking. Regardless of the reasoning (or lack of), most software
developers, graphics or otherwise, will develop for Microsoft's platforms. So
I think we're better off keeping our tools in one spot where they can interact
most efficiently.

It's the 3DS so diferent in inside politics in Autodesk, Why Autodesk make
Autocad for some diferent platforms (Windows, DOS, SUN, HP, etc..) and can't do
that for 3DS. Iknow, I'm a programmer and is very expensive to support a
program in such a diversity, but in the meantime as some programs go from SGI
to Mac Autodesk will go to another part.
I have OS/2, Windows 95 M7 and Windows NT Workstation, and my choice is for
OS/2, is technically superior to Windows 95 and doesn't need a expensive
computer and I don't need Unicode or Secutity C2 and OpenGL it's too in OS/2
but it seems that Autodesk will push me to NT.
OK I know it's not your fault (In the beginin I think that Autodesk will follow
something more massive like Windows 95) but Ihave to say something!

And you _should_ say something! But it's more likely that the users are
telling Autodesk what they want, than vice versa. And if more of Autodesk's
customers want NT, then they had better go to NT.

And so you can switch to SoftImage without switching platforms, eh?

Yes, if I should choose to! <BG> I seriously doubt it, though!!
