#light wish

Hello Jonas
I would like a spot that would cast shadows all the way around or a shadow
casting omni. Ive had to do some elaborate work arounds with several spots and
exclude to simulate the light from a candle, fire or naked light bulb.
Thanks

got it.
Check out the OverShoot button in the Spotlight ajustment menu. It makes a
spot light act like an omni light and still cast shadows.

Hi Jason,
<< It makes a spot light act like an omni light and still cast shadows. >>
FWIW.. The shadow casting aspect of Overshoot is confined to the falloff region
of the spot light..(see 7-159). In the case of the candle problem, shadows were
desired in many places so the workaround is multiple lights….
I have an "OmniSpot" I took the time to create with 6 lights and linked it to
a dummy object. I was able to get the falloffs to overlap so as not to be
percievable. You _can_ see slight dark spots at each of the corners but they're
not terribly noticable, especially if it is not animated.
If you want I will upload it.

Yes, thank you. Ive often thought that a great way to plan the future of
software would be to pay attention to the creative workarounds that folks come
up with and eliminate the need for them.

I just uploaded the file to the 3D Studio Library as OmniSpot. Enjoy,

Thanks, it should prove useful.
