I just got LenzFX and Penello and they have the dreaded hardware locks… does this mean there is no way to use these products for network rendering? I tried fat fingering the 3ds.set file but it seems to want the locks to be local. ( of course ) Am I missing something? the doc's don't mention network rendering that I can see. Thanks, Tom

<< does this mean there is no way to use these products for network rendering? I use Penello over a network. I copied the .pxp on to the slaves process dir. and also the brushes to the slaves images dir although this shouldnt be necessary Ed

LenZFx have two versions: Single & Network. The network is quite expensive ($799 srp) However, it's a pretty clever pricing (fr. a developer's pov) scheme. Pennello is network compatible. View any of the readme file and you'll see it mentioned. By the way, you're several of the limited Pennello users out there just like I'm. I was just curious of what you had use/planned to use for this plug-in? [I'm using my exclusively for rotoscoped video/film scenes. I found it quite hard to use and requires lot of time learing all of the extensive brush parameters. The docs are well written, as compared to other IPASes in its realm.] {CSNav automated message} – TSL

Actually, there's only one version of LFX now… the network version. And the price has been dropped to $295 for my Disk#1 customers and $395 generally.

I must also mention at this point in the thread that even though the current version of LenzFX is network compatible I must agree with a comment earlier that the docs do not mention anything about the network. No offense to Michelle Bousqet, but the docs are rather lacking on technical information (ie network). I was rather disappointed in that the stacker is a bit buggy and the user had to go on the "road of discovery" to find KNOWN bugs and workarounds. I can't afford to pay animators to perform that function. Network docs are a MUST for IPAS docs. I don't expect a program to be bug free first time out but I do expect documentation and addendums with workarounds. I had a conversation with Jeff and Beau over at Digimation about this and they promised network docs and some workarounds to be posted here. On a positive note we have found LenzFx to be visually stunning and I feel it is one of the best IPAS on the market.

How should I address you… T-Spect Le I got Pennello to do some of the effects that I have been doing using Painter. I do agree that the amount of variations is daunting, but no more so than Painter. I did also acquire the program with the idea of altering rotoscoped images. As far as LenzFX goes, I thought the network version was dropped in favor of a single price version that did both. I just got back from NAB and Digimation told me that it could be used over the network. I am supposed to copy the LZF file to the networked machine. I've yet to try it but we'll see…

Disregard my outdated status on LenZFx. You're right on that one. I got your message re Pennello usages. Thanks for reply. – TSL

We've been running LenzFX v1.3 over a Novell 3.12 network (dedicated server) with only minor hitch's except: we have some dummy 3DS slave systems (motherboards w/ram but no hard drive) that don't seem to like LenzFX and report a missing key at the end of the log file. We're working on this one. Keep in mind that LenzFX alters the 3DS.SET file parameters so make sure any slave nodes on the network have their 3DS.SET files updates to reflect the changes. Digimation's running it over Lantastic without a problems.
