#Odd Anim. Problem
4 messages in this thread
I am having a weird problem with an animation I am doing involving Bones Pro,
but I am not sure that Bones is causing the problem. I am hoping, although I
realize the chance is very slim, that someone has seen this problem before. I
have a credit card (I used Grids to create it), and it is walking onto the
screen, it is in about a 45 degree angle in relation to the camera view. In
the Keyframer, as it walks on, a thin strip along one side becomes black, but
only to a point.. about 3/4 down the side is black, and it sharply cuts leaving
the other 1/4 part of the card in tact. The black strip is relatively about
1/2 an inch wide from the edge. This strip moves and becomes shorter and
longer as the card walks and twists. The strip is not visible in the 3D
Editor, it only shows up at certain sections of the animation in the Keyframer.
That is the best way I can describe it. I don't think it is the lighting
because I have tried illuminating the ambient light and this did not change it.
I've tried replacing the card with a higher resolution grid, but this did not
fix it either. Another note, I originally had the card walking on a table, and
where the table's horizon (in the background) met the edge of the card (in the
foreground) is where the black strip was visible cutting into the card. I
know this sounds confusing so if anyone would like to see the .fli, I will be
glad to upload it. Thanks for any help.

James,
You're right – it is odd :-O
I would make sure that there are no oddities in your texture map that could be
causing the black, as well as making sure that your mapping coordinates are
applied correctly and fully cover the card geometry.
If you still can't get it to work, I'd be happy to take a look at your file.

James, this is a total shot in the dark, but by any chance was your texture map
saved in PhotoShop? And if so, was there a Selected Area during the time of the
save?
Believe it or not, I've seen something like this before, and that was the
cause.
Best of luck finding this beastie,

No, I created the map in Animator Pro. I have found that if I put a textured
wall in the background, it fixes the problem. Before, the edge of the table
(in the background) was where the cut in the card ended. Very strange.
