#Help! IFFDR2D in Corel?
11 messages in this thread
Hi,
Over the years I've scanned and traced dozens of chinese characters and
converted them to (amiga) IFFDR2D format using soft-logik's BMP and
ArtExpression for use with PageStream. However, I now find I also have to use
these characters in Corel Draw and Ventura Publisher.
It would be extremely annoying if I had to go through the whole scan/trace/edit
stuff again, so my question is this; does anyone know a way to use/convert for
use these types of IFFDR2D drawings in Corel? or, an easy way to use chinese
characters in Corel in general?
Thanks for any help,
Rene
Rene,
if AE exports EPSF and Corel imports it, then your problem is solved.
Now I know AE can export in EPSF, or call it Adobe Illustrator, but I'm haven't
got the slightest idea what Corel Draw can achieve.

Thanks Lieven,
I thought of that, but it appears Art Expression can't export Illustrator 88
compound objects (which the characters are). I thought of perhaps converting
them into a font with typesmith?

Illustrator 88 does not support compound objects, therefore Art Expression
can't export them. Later versions of the Illustrator file format support
compound objects, but Art Expression can't export in greater than 88/1.1
format.

Michael,
Sorry, That's what I meant (didn't mean to knock the product). What do you
suggest, do you think using TypeSmith to make a font (actually several fonts)
will work?
BTW- I'm not abandoning my much loved PGS 2.2 (& 3.0, though I can't use as
much yet- keep up the good work). I just need to do a file in Corel format. In
fact, I'm working on a book on Chinese Martial Arts on it right now 8 )
Rene
You can't convert IFF DR2D format to Corel Draw format. Corel will not release
their file format and I don't know of anyway to convert files to their format.
However, Corel Draw can import Adobe Illustrator EPS files. You can convert IFF
DR2D files to Illustrator EPS files with Art Expression or PageStream3.

(Or you could make a font of the drawings with TypeSmith.)
Mike,
Thanks.
BTW- Is the Pgs3 Illustrator exporter better then the AE one? or do they work
the same?
Rene
The PageStream3 Illustrator exporter is different than the AE one. Written by
different programmers. However, at this time, the filter does need more work.
It is good for basic drawings though.

Once again,
Thanks Mike.

Mike,
You're probably more up on this than me, but the the new HiJak Graphics Suite
has added Corel CDR to the list of formats it handles – read, converts and
writes. And it handles IFF (but maybe not the DR2D flavor).
So, a user with CrossDos and access to a PC might be able to work around.

Hijack does not handle IFF DR2D. Some people use IFF (mistakenly) when they
mean IFF ILBM. There are zillions of IFF formats.
