A friend of mine is wondering whether it's possibly to replace the socketed 25MHz 040 on the CPU card with a 40MHz 040. I know he'd have to replace the clock crystal, but my guess is that it's not possible anyway. Am I right, or is he? We'd both appreciate any help. TIA Mr. Zombie

The 25MHz and 40Mhz processors are identical except for the fact that one has been tested to run at a higher speed. Replacing the processor should cause no problem, but you won't see any speed increase till you also replace the oscillator. The big question is can the support chips on the A3640 accelerator handle the increase in speed? As long as they hold up, the card should perform fine at the increased speed. Regards, Keith. Thanks. I told him what you said. Maybe he'll go ahead and try. I guess worst comes to worst he can always get the no-CPU WarpEngine if the 3640 gets fried and move the 40MHz 040 onto it. Mr. Zombie
