#AShade2 to Ani Pro
15 messages in this thread
I'm running Ashade2 in 800×600 res. with 256 colors. I have the ATK lisp
routines and have produced several images (hopefully) ready for import into
Ani Pro for an animation. Is there a way to do this and also keep the
800×600 res. w/ 256 colors?
What's up doc (or was that B. Streisand)? Any relation to Mr. Malone?
Sure, Animator Pro will handle your stuff as long as you have a video card
(and VESA driver) that'll handle the SVGA resolutions. May not play too
fast depending on the speed of your hardware and how many pixels change per
frame.

Well I have a SVGA card and a VESA driver all right. But if my output from
Ashade2 are rendering files (256 color map) with .rnd extensions, how do I
convert to Ani Pro? I have the original flimaker.exe for Animator, but
that is only 320×200 res output of a .fli file. When I bring that file
into Ani Pro, the animation is in 800×600 alright, but it sure is a lot
smaller in screen size… about 66% smaller. Is there any way to play it
at 800×600 res. full screen?
Wascally Wabbit,
Use of "handles" is NOT a tradition on this forum, so please change
your forum user name. People enjoy the illusion of thinking they know who
they're talking to. I've got your answer, but I'll hold it hostage.

Alright I'll come out of Toon Town. I didn't realize that this forum is
not in the habit of using "handles". So, what's it going to cost me
retreive the hostage?
Roland,
Look for a utility on the forum (might be over in the ACAD forum,
since that's where AutoShade support is) called RNDTGA.ZIP. This converts
AutoShade .RND files to .TGA. Then load the .TGA into Animator Pro (either
singly through ANICONV, or using the NumPic Poco function from the Animator
Pro pull-downs.

Okay thanx, that seems simple enough, I'll try it out. However, is there a
utility similar to "flimaker" that will convert the hires .rnd files into
.flc format? Or can that be done in Ani Pro?
Kevin,
Do you happen to know the set variable for setting a targa 16 into overscan
mode for 3DS? Ours seems to have been set back into not-overscan and I
can't find a manual anywhere. It is an old TARGA 16 (about 4 years old!)
Doug,
SET TARGASET=T16P241EG is a typical example. The 'T16' identifies
the board, the 'G' indicates genlock (if desired), the 'P241' indicates 482
lines (twice the number), and 'E' activates overscan (if the board has the
capability). Approximate aspect ratio @ 512×482 is 1.23. I use 1.266 on
the Targa+.

Thanks! Someday I'll buy something from you to pay you back for all your
help!
Doug,
Yeah, right. Just keep the desserts coming at the next Siggraph
roundup.

Glad to see someone appreciated it! Everyone thought that AutoDesk
sponsored that bash when actually, although they pitched in, Gary and I
footed most of the bill. Anyone who was still around at 1:00 saw the Mirage
guy chasing me around trying to get a credit card… I am speaking at NCGA
in March and will be at the AutoDesk bash, wherever it is. Hope to see you
there…
BTW…
I am getting FLC files from a client and they use all 256 colors. I need to
re-map them in ANI PRO to reserve the bottom 16 for me. I haven't had time
to read manuals or really learn Ani Pro. Any ideas how to do this quickly?
I need something like a "reduce this palette by 16 colors, move them to be
the bottom 16 and re-map the flic" macro…
-Doug
Doug,
Thanks again for the goodies. Next time, say something up at the
podium – you let things get a little out of control. We will be @ NCGA,
but I won't be dropping in on your speech.
Re: Animator Pro, squeezing the palette to reserve the # of colors you
need: See page 4-17 of the AAPRO Reference Manual.

Thanks for the tip on the AAPRO manual. I'll look it up. Next time, I will
be speaking with Gary as the sidekick… (hee-hee)
